HELLO THERE! I've only had my dreadlings for 9 days using the twist & rip method. I was wondering if there was a good way to tighten up my roots? I prefer not to crotchet them so are there any alternatives? Thanks in advance!

    Wait a few months.
    Or a year.

They're going to get a lot looser than that before they get tight. Leave them be. The more you mess with them, the longer it will take for them to sort themselves out. In my experience it took well over a year for the roots to really take.

Thank you! I was thinking I should wait it out. I wanted to let it do it's thing naturally but I couldn't. My hair has never really needed a brush or comb in it.

They are beautiful regardless, I just didn't know if it would come undone because of me washing em every two days. I will let them be. :)

Since you have baby dreads, it is wise not to be too rough with them. All you really need to do is scrub the scalp and the soap will rinse the rest of your hair. Start with hot water then go to cold and that process will help with the dreading process. I also did the TnR method and my dreads are almost 2 months old, they are already starting to lock up and look nice. You will get a lot of loose hairs, don't worry about these, they will form their own dreads. The only thing you can really do if you want to go the natural route is to wait and be patient. Also washing the hair really helps. As they start to mature, it is also good to do a ACV/BS rinse once or twice a year to get some gunk out. :) Happy dreadings and keep us updated.

Check out a few timelines it might help you feel better :) Mine always held their sections but early on they became very very loose and soft, but in no time you'll feel good solid knots forming and they'll tighten up to the scalp - I'm at 6 months now and aside from 2 dreads at the back all of mine are dreaded to within 1-1/2in of the scalp and are nice and tight feeling. Whenever I have a bad/messy dreads day I look at timelines for people at least a month or two ahead of me and see how much improvement happens, it's good to be able to see you're on track :)

    Your pictures look just fine.

I'm also nearly 2 months in and a lot of my roots are loose still but then my ends are starting to lock, and some roots too, its the inbetween thats mainly loose for me! But like everyone else has said, give them time, keep them clean, let them do their thing and they will. I'm going through a frustrating phase where they just look and feel so messy and untameable but it only takes a few timeline stalks on here to make me see that its all a part of the process :) maybe wear a wool beanie hat? All will be well
