Hey guys, my first post here. I truly live & die for hard-rock & heavy metal in general & right now I want to add some new songs to my long playlist. I am looking for a pretty particular sub-genre of metal, but I cant quite classify it....Its kind of progressive, maybe kind of slow & dark & really devilish....I dont like all that screaming, high-speed stuff....Examples of songs that fit this genre are - The devil cried - Black Sabbath Children of the sea - Black Sabbath Lochness - Judas Priest Beyond the realms of death - Judas Priest The God that failed - Metallica The call of the Ktulu - Metallica Hell Awaits - Slayer (Only the first 3 minutes - intro of the song - this is the perfect example) Any suggestions for any songs that are based on these lines??!...Please help. Cheers & thanks, WD.
Try some Sleep. Sleeps Holy Mountain is beyond wicked. Also, Try some more Black Sabbath such as the self titled, or Apocalyptica, if you like the cello. Most of my collection consists of "fast" stuff. Try Mayhem's Deathcrush, (Or, Chainsaw gutsfuck, to be particular to a song) Pick up some Burzum too, for that "devilish" sounding stuff. KREATOR, EXODUS and ICED EARTH would be kickass bands to discover too, though they don't fit your bill haha.
Huh? I just woke up! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA What you need is some Primordial. Their latest album especially is a tormented monument. It's kind of doomish folkish blackish progressive-ish, but I've never felt I could classify it as any single one of those adjectives. It's dark and melancholic and yet beautiful, solemn and majestic, with truly anguished clean vocals, you just have to check it out. And, like Metallideth said, Iced Earth is mandatory. Welcome to these forums, by the way.
Hey guys....Thanks so much for the replys....Picked up some great songs!!! I actually hated the cello stuff....But I really liked Dragonaut!!! In my search I also picked up 2 songs by black label society that I really loved....Suicide Messiah & Fire it up.....Also they have done a great rendition of No more tears. Just wanted to point out that I dont only like the above specified genre....I like all types of metal but right now I guess its just a phase. I think I tend to stick to the old tried & tested stuff....My favorites are Metallica (All time favorite & I am going to see them live at wembley in a month), Judas Priest, Black Sabbath (only when Dio was on vocals...dont like Ozzys voice), Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Black Stone Cherry (love these guys). I also love some (not all) of Pantera, Slayer etc. To be very honest, I appreciate, but dont really like bands like Kreator, Queens of the stone age etc etc...Not really into that super fast screaming stuff unless its live!! Anyway, now that I have elaborated on my tastes please do tell me any bands/songs that I may have missed out! Cheers & thanks a million guys, WD.
The Gates Of Slumber take the best of NWOBHM (Priest, Maiden, etc) and mix it with traditional doom. If you're into Priest, you're probably into stuff like Angel Witch, Saxon, and Manowar? If not, those three bands are highly recommended.
Neither Kreator nor Queens of the Stone Age fall under the category of super fast screaming stuff. ESPECIALLY not QotSA. They're regular MTV-friendly stoner rock. And if you think Kreator is super fast screaming stuff don't bother with any of the black or death metal recommendations (by the way, Slayer is at times faster and screamier than Kreator). Primordial is still recommended though. Try the song The coffin ships, it's beyond lovely, mmmmmmh hm!
Try the Atomic Bitchwax and Orange Goblin. I think you might dig Unida as well. Dopesmoker is my favourite album of Sleep by the way, so I recommend that one. Maybe you dig Shovelhead as well, check 'em out here: www.myspace.com/shovelheadnj
Ooooh oooh oooh! If you like Black Sabbath, you must listen to CANDLEMASS! Pleaaaase let me die in soooliiiituuuude!!
