Ok, so I want to make a long skirt with a drawstring, but I don't quite have enough material, so I was thinking I could do something like this in the back with a different fabric::

So that there's kind of an opening for a different fabric. Any ideas?

yeah, the threads on that site are just amazingly beautiful

if you look around a bit, there are some other pics on the site of similar dresses...anyways, it looks like the green part is extra and just floats on top--like side panels. the white part is the actual skirt

~*hey you ~ well... i hope i can verbally suss this out so it makes some sense! with the fabric that you want to be the most of the dress cut your pattern just as you would otherwise in symmetry ~ the remainder of the pattern that is missing just use another fabric, sew it up and add your waist or drawsrting whatever :: this will create the look of a petticoat apron skirt but not actually be all the work and use less material. to get a skirt with that opening and floaty look like in andy's dress posted (isn't she amazing!!) :: repeat step one from above (cutting the fabric in symmetry with your pattern) and finish it as if you are making a wrap (sew up the edges, make a tie for the waist ~ like an apron really), next you can make a petticoat to wear underneath, or you can cut yourself half of a skirt, finish it on the edges once again, and sew it into the other skirt taking care to line up your hem and fit the waist (either with a bit of elastic or not ~ with the other part of the skirt made like an apron with a tie at the waist it will cinch the underfabric to fit ~ in theory!). oh gosh i DO hope my whatchamacallit~doohickey bibble babble is decipherable! i'll see if i can dig up some pics........... good luck!*~
