Real. It isn't a monster but a giant sea snake that has been plonked there by some sea faring folk. It has been seen rarely which means it is quite shy. Loch ness is a very deep lake.

There are massive cavities that a large animal could easily hide in at the bottom of the loch.....and the waves were only transmitted in one area at a time.....an Elephant is cunning enough to avoid such waves.
