I live in Aussie in a city of 2 million people. Right now, outside my door I can hear a possum, a gecko, a frog, see bats, massive ants and a HUGE spider and I can only imagine there is a snake or two not far away. Anyone else live somewhere with an assortment of exotic animals? (I'm from New Zealand, so Aussie wildlife as come as a bit of a shock).
That's cool. I expect there are several exotic birds outside there too, like the rose breasted cockatoo? I'm looking into coming to aussieland either next winter (winter here, summer there) and spend the winter in your warm climate. I've always wanted to come to australia so I thought it would be cool to just live there for like 3 mos. I'm looking at Victoria somewhere, near Sydney. Just get me a furnished flat and hang out for 3 mos. Any suggestions?
People not from around here might be nervous about the amount of bears and mountain lions around. I live out in the sticks so there are quite a few critters here.
It's pretty tame here in England. But wander north to Scotlans and you gotta contend with the midges ... and then on Jura you'll get CLEGGS!!!!!
Yes. Reindeer, Polar Bear and Sable common for Yakutia. My friend Nadia is a reindeer herder. Insects only are a problem to me in short, summer time. This would be the problem, why I can not live in Australia.
Sydney is great, but expensive, as all Australian cities are these days. I personally love Queensland, where I live, gorgeous beaches, Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday Islands...summer here is VERY hot, though.
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin west philadelphia born and raised where the wild animals are mostly hit by cars or are poisoned for shitting on everything
Well moving to Aus from Canada I love it. To see the cockatoos on my porch, and rosellas out the window very cool. Plus the possums and bats and I live in a populated area. Was cool for me last year outside having a few drinks with the ol man and it was a bad heatwave so the A/C on and a try collecting water. This little possum comes up where we were checks us out and then takes the biggest drink and left. But the bugs creep me out....Huntsmen spiders ewwww!!! But..... Meanwhile in Canada....... I do remember the Blue Jays and Cardinals, squirrels, even foxes. And up north the bears raccoons etc etc. So both have the fair share it's just looking at it for the first time through new eyes.
Well, I suppose the animals here are exotic to some people. Every now and then a possum will show up on the side of the road and more than once I've woken up to a yard full of grazing deer. And turkeys. Good lord, you know the season's about to change when my neighborhood starts to look like a ghetto, but it's turkeys instead of gangstas. lol
Nothing exotic around here except the usual deer, moose, fox, beaver, raccoons, bears, screech owl, chipmunk, voles, eastern cottontails, and coyote's Hotwater
This is somewhere that is on my list to visit. I am hopeful that at some point in time, I am going to visit. Here we have wild life that maybe some would not see, like moose, deer and my all time favourite toothy nasty fishers. I love the raccoons as they are so full of themselves. The skunks here are a little picky as they will not live in Newfoundland....or smart. Climate sucks. You have to love the natural animals in any spot in the world as they only want to survive and if not for us they would. I just wish I could see a Unicorn.
idk, I saw my first armadillo ever when I was in georgia, but it was roadkill too. I remember one time I was getting on the high way and there were cars behind me and I couldn't slow down and there was a flock of small birds eating a deer carcass or something in the middle of the on ramp and I had to hit them or get rear ended going like 70
Well where I'm living at the moment is considered 'wet lands' so we have a lot of waterbirds. We dont get too many snakes... just the odd king brown or tigersnake every so often. We get a lot of grey kangaroo mobs. A lot of corella flocks... even seen a crow/magpie hybrid decide to chill in my yard for a while last year. Every now and then we might get a bobtail wonder into the yard. And naturally there are a lot of bit muthaphukin' spideys. The biggest one I've seen living in my carport was a huntsman and was probably just a little smaller than a dinner plate if it's legs were all stretched out. If you go out driving late at night you'll usually catch sight of a fox or two. I've only ever seen an echidna cross the road once. Living on the edge in Australia and we dont even have to try. We just stumble out of bed.
