Hey there. New years eve I went on quite the drinking binge. Note that I really don't drink often. It started at about 6 oclock I had 8 high lifes, 2 hours later I started drinking a lot of Captain Morgan, about half a red cup and 6 large shots. Then a few hours later I took a few shots of brandy and drank 2 glasses of shampagne. About a half hour after the shampagne I got really light headed and passed out. I was told I was out cold. My buddy carried me to his bed where I started to become concious again. Note if I wouldn't have came to around that time he said they were going to call 911, because I was pale and breathing really slow, a sign of alcohol poisening. I instantly began to drink water and then puked my guts out. It got to the point where I no longer could puke anything but clear liquid. After I couldn't puke any longer I started drinking lots of water to hydrate myself. The next day I had the traditional bad hangover, with no outstanding stomache pain. However this morning I woke up and I noticed my stomache seemed to be sore, mostly on the right side under my ribs, whenever I take deeper breaths or cough. Could I have seriously damaged my liver from just the one night of heavy drinking? Any info or advice is greatly appreciated.
^ I think you need to see a doctor. also try looking up alcohol poisoning symptoms/liver complications on-line hope you'll be ok
I'll see how I feel tomorrow and then make the decision whether or not to visit my doctor. I'm hoping my stomache muscles are just sore from the excessive puking, which I have gotten before after puking from the flu. Thanks for the advice e7m8.
You wouldn't have "liver pain". It's either muscles or stomach that hurts. Either way, I don't know the cause or reason for the pain- you'd have to see a doctor.
My Guess Is An Inflamed Lining Of The Stomach, Drink Plenty Of Water And Eat Greasy Food And That Should Coat The Lining And Ease The Pain, And As The Old Saying Goes......If Pain Persists, See Your Doctor.... Cheers Glen.
You can have liver pain. It's usually from a blocked bile duct or cancer or such. It sounds more like you've inflamed the lining of your stomach/duodenum. Liver failure is actually quite painless--I've had it. Other than the low-blood-sugar like attacks there's no pain. But unless you had pre-existing liver issues you wouldn't have killed your liver from one night of drinking. Still, DO NOT drink for a good while and keep drinking water. Greasy foods won't help your stomach any and will only make your liver work harder. Stick to simple carbs and bland food until you feel better. And take it from someone who has to take pills twice a day the rest their lives--don't take your liver for granted.
vivalalife, I am sorry to read of your pain. I think, maybe difficult lesson of alcohol now is learned! Ha-ha! ) Though I have this same problem so many times, and I do not learn! ) I agree with e7m8. If symptoms do not go away in 1-3 days, you must visit doctor. I do not think this problem is your liver. This would be problem only of long term alcohol abuse. I agree with Aerianne and GLENGLEN. If you have pain with coughing and deep breath, this probably is muscular pain from the vomiting, irritated stomach, or both. Do you have more symptoms? I have same pain in my chest and ribs when I have hangover. I wish you fast recovery! Take care
I've been advised of this. But I don't totally believe it. But it's not like a wrenching pain, it's a sort of ache, like someone's poking you with a long needle and twisting it around a bit or something, only not that severe. OP, you messed up your stomach valve/muscles puking, shits gunna hurt. Drink water, go easy. When you throw up so violently you get down to nothing, you can really hurt stuff, and it can take days or weeks to feel totally normal. Anyways, I'm not a doctor, but I say take half an aspirin, drink plenty of water, eat light gentle food, go a few days, and see how you feel. A few years ago on new years I drank myself to sleep without throwing up. But in the morning my stomach was so burned and I was so hungover that I took about three days to feel "good", and spent new years day lieing in bed wishing I could sleep, when I wasen't busy puking. It makes you re-evaluate your alcohol intake regulation guidelines, might do as much good as harm.
Good news! I went to see my doctor the other day and after checking it out he said its just a stomache muscle strain and should be just fine.
