    Linux: A World of Flavors

While everyone has undoubtedly heard about Microsoft Windows, many have not heard of a wonderful alternative called Linux. Those who have heard of Linux have overwhelmingly never tried it. I'm here to convince you to give it a try.
Linux is an Operating System, or a program that interfaces the hardware with the software and manages security and user information, and an excellent alternative to Windows. Linux was created in the early 90s by Linus Torvalds who created linux by modifying a copy of the Minix OS he had received. Linux is intended to be similar in design and functionality to Unix, the ultra-stable OS produced by Bell Labs in the 60s. Fast forward to today; Linux exists as a modern operating system, free as in $, and free as in freedom to modify code(if you're able).
Why should you switch to Linux? Linux is stable, and by stable I mean rarely crashes or corrupts, and can be left on for months without the need to reboot. Linux is free which means instead of paying $150 and up for a piece of software, you can put that money towards retirement or Chinese take-out. The programs which run on Linux are free; so there is no need to break the bank to buy office suites and utilities that should be included. Linux is not proprietary therefore you can customize your desktop and system anyway you'd like without being slapped with a lawsuit. When running Linux virii, spyware, and adware are all things of the past. In fact, the only concievable reason not to run Linux is if you are a hardcore gamer. Linux does not play nice with games for the most part.

Here is a quick list of reason to run Linux:

You don't want to pay $ for an operating system.
You don't want to pay $ for programs for an operating systemn.
You want to be able to update your entire computer, including added programs, with two commands.
You want the most stable, almost guaranteed to never crash, system available.
You don't want to have to deal with virii, spyware, and adware.
You want to customize your desktop easily.
You want to customize yout system easily.

A list of reasons why you should not use linux:

    You are a hardcore gamer.
You use a family computer and you are not allowed to switch.
You have incompatible hardware(rare, but printers are common)
You are an imbecile. (in which case windows can keep you)

If you can't tell I like linux ALOT. I will take 3 people under my wing and give them my sn and email to help them switch to linux if they want to switch. I'm not a master, but good enough to help a n00b become competent. If more than 3 people are interested I will help them to the best of my ability before.

I feel that linux really embodies the spirit of freedom and that which hippies and this forum stand for. Free to use, free to change, free to distribute...imagine if weed was like that.

    Didn't much care for...
"You are an imbecile. (in which case windows can keep you)"

Yeah Linux is a lot greater than Windows obviously, but the thing is, not everyone knows how to work with it. Windows is shitty indeed, but it's a lot easier to use. I've been trying to install Ubuntu on my old hard drive so i can run both, because I'm a "hardcore gamer" as you call it. But I would like to run Linux as well. So I try to install, my mouse doesn't work. I'm trying to go through the installer and make my partition... NOTHING TELLS ME WHAT THE FUCK TO DO. It's extremely annoying. In my eyes, you need someone that knows Linux, to teach you it. So people will read your post, and think, "Wow, Linux seems really great...". They're going to try to install it, and have no idea what to do and just get pissed off. I'm not an imbecile, I know a lot about computers, comparing myself to the average person, of course, compared to some, I know nothing. But I wasn't able to do it and I want to...
