hey guys... i'm looking for links to sites about TRULY natural parenting. becoming a mom is still a few years away for me (if all goes as planned, lol), but i want to read up on as much stuff as i can in the meantime, so i know what's up.

basically, i wanna do completely natural pregnancy/childbirth... NO doctors, no ultrasounds, no medications (except prenatal vitamins), no one but me and my lover and maybe a doula involved in the process.

and then i wanna know information about sleeping with my baby in bed with me, breastfeeding, alternatives to disposable diapers...

basically anything about raising children from conception on up, in completely alternative ways. everytime i do google searches i get not much useful information. apparently some people think that "alternative parenting" means only feeding your kids organic foods and sending them to waldorf schoos.

anyways, i'd appreciate any feedback you guys have... links to sites and/or books that have actually helped you... it's always good to have input from people who've actually done it!

yes... i confess... i want a baby so bad. like, i ache with it.

but now is not the right time, and i KNOW that. but, i wanna be prepared so that the minute it IS the right time, i will know as much as i can, and i will not be AS overwhelmed with "what the hell do i do now!"

I'm with you, I'm dying for a baby. I'm only 20 so it isn't happening soon.

well... knowledge is power... MDC is a wealth of resources... there's lots of women just like you two that are regular posters... you don't necessarily have to be a momma yet to post there.... :)

lol... yeah, if i can ever figure out all the "momma lingo." :D

i have to say, there's some "out there" stuff. like elimination communication... i had never heard of this. do any of you guys practice it? it seems like WAY too much work (not that i don't want to do anything for my kids), and reduces the mom's life to being nothing but her kids. i don't ever want to get myself so immersed in my kids that i stop having my own identity. sorry... i'll shut up, i don't wanna offend anyone who does this and loves it! :D

I love the momma lingo.... :)

I know Holly tried EC with her daughter... I find it quite fascinating to try to get that in tune with your child.... but it just didn't work for me... I don't have any real regrets about not trying it....

I use cloth diapers, which I think helps speed along the whole potty training thing in general... my son is almost 2 and already showing signs of wanting to start potty training...

no EC over here but we do use cloth and i agree with scarlettchasingroses, dd2 who is 22 months (today) is showing signs of being ready to start potty learning which is a good 6 months sooner than dd1 who was in sposies.

yeah, i like the idea of being in tune with your baby. but it just doesn't seem like something that would be very practical for myself and my partner. but we will DEFINITELY be using cloth diapers. i don't wanna do all that disposable stuff to the landfills. plus i've been a caregiver for YEARS (so has he, yay!), we're no strangers to cleaning up poop and other stuff. :D plus i can imagine that cloth, which would feel heavier and less dry after wetting it (i'm assuming anyways) would make a kid wanna potty train faster! i was a nanny for a while, and the littlest one was a breeze to potty train. she woke up one day when she was 2, decided she didn't wanna wet her pants anymore, she wanted big girl undies. we got her big girl undies with dora on it i think it was, and said that dora didn't wanna get wet. she never once had an accident. i'm hoping it's so easy for my own, lol!
