Ive found lately that if i focus hard enough i can almost see the patterns that i see when im tripping, to a much lesser extent of course. If i stare at an objoect like a wall of ceiling tile for more than 3 seconds it starts to breath like the very very beginnings of a trip...when i look at a light, no matter how bright it is, its burned into my vision for like 10 seconds just like what happens when the falsh of a camera goes off...anyone else have this problem?
oh shit that might be hppd, something I have, I've been "coming down" further and further ever since November, when some asshole fucked up my trip real bad - but if it's really minor it's prob normal... I still see static when I look at blank walls... which really sucks
yeah its not minor its definatly quite noticable, its not something im tweakin out about or anything, i kind of enjoy it to be honest, makes my day a little more interesting. The only thing i dont like is the lights burned into my vision...i have to wear sunglasses whenever the sun is out because my eyes have become so sensative to light...and everytime i read a book the words on the page seem to wiggle abit which is pretty annoying, other than that tho i dont mind it
those "burned" images are called after images. the cells in the retina fatique after being stimulated by a particular color or differential lightness or linear orientation or directional movement (etc, which is super interesting...). as such, there is a rebound effect that takes place after the initial stimulation. for example, if you stare at something red for 10+ seconds and then look at a white wall (or some paper or the sky), you'll see the exact opposite appear; that is, you'll see green. the same thing applies when looking at various levels of light. these sorts of things happen to anyone with a fully functioning optical system. in my opinion, though, acid (and likely other psychedelics as well) somehow makes these effects more pronounced during the sober state. i wonder if it may be a result of augmented neural sensitivity in the visual cortex of the brain (i.e. V1 and V2) or any of the various information pathways and hypercolumn sections leading up to the final processing stages of human vision. i'm unfortunately not aware of any published research on this topic. p.s. you all have probably seen that spinning wheel--spiral--effect where you stare at it for 30 seconds and look away and everything starts moving all crazy-like? it works because the pattern of movement tires out particular cells in your retina (in the same funny pattern, basically), which then try to correct themselves back to their natural equilibrium and in doing so cause you to see that cool crawling/bubbling effect. fun.
I get static when I look at almost anything in certain situations. I'd actually be interested in doing a little self research on this subject to be honest, because I was talking to a friend about it the other day, we were outside walking down the road, and I looked about, and I couldn't see any static at all, anywhere, no matter how hard I looked, but right now in my bedroom I can see static on absolutely everything if I concentrate on it. Perhaps it's something to do with artificial light illuminating what would otherwise be a low/no-light situation. P.S. I can't say I ever really noticed this before I took acid either, whereas I most certainly did get the whole retina burn thing, that's always happened to me, and really the strength of the light has little to do with it, so long as you stare at something for long enough (and only that thing) it will leave a faint after-image. As to the person who asked why longterm effects of acid are a problem if you enjoy them.. well, they may not be a problem to some people, but others might not enjoy them so much, so threads like this certainly have a useful purpose.
yea i get this too but i got it from mushrooms. just cuz theyre natural doesnt mean shit, still a chemical just naturally made. it got really bad when sum1 fucked up my trip now i cant smoke weed =/
to be honest, it may have been the rolls that did it mostly, ive taken alot more mdma then i have lsd and for more extended periods....but yeah, ive read somewhere that MAOI's (i beleive that is the correct acronym) help alot with HPPD symptoms, I dont like the idea of been on perscriptions like that in fear of weird side effects, certian pills have left me whacked out permantly so...ill just live with the pretty colors haha
ill never go on an MAOI or SSRI or any of that crap, if im screwing with my brain chemistry id rather do it for the short-term. im fine when normal just when i smoke weed panic attacks set in..
this's good ^^^ these are results of a mind expanded beyond its normal confines in my opinion. (not the after image of course, that happens normally) some effects linger on forever and I love weed for its triggering effect heheh... since my first acid experience I happen to trip as if I've taken lsd when I smoke weed
