All of a sudden I have SUPER paranoia of lice. It's been almost a month now and since my hair is crappy, there's been EXCELLENT progress now. ( Working on natural dreads)

But also, I haven't washed in that amount of time either. And although I do have alot of dandruff, Maybe there's something more there.

Is there anyway of knowing if you got lice or not without having someone else check? If my mom see's something like that my hair is going to be all gone in the blink of an eye.

I was checking for Nits or whatever they're called, but it could just as easily be dandruff. Another thing a website suggests is comb your hair, but I can't do that since I'm in the progress of dreads.

I did have an extreme amount of itching at one point, but now that's all gone. Everybody in progress of dreads, including actual dreadheads, have the itchies though, right?

    Help me! John.

douse your hair in tea tree oil, that will get rid of the buggers if indeed there are any

I didn't wash my hair at first to let the knots at the roots strengthen up.
I just finished washing, but it wasn't with residue free soap or anything of the kind, oh well.

I'm going to look into buying Dr. Bronner's Tea tree shampoo, that should do the trick.

once your head gets used to it, it stops itching. and remember, lice don't just appear out of thin air. all you gotta do is stay away from people with lice

My head itches when it needs a wash. I always have lice paranoia...but at the end of the day if you get lice you can get rid of them. There is no need to cut your dreads unless you have tried plenty of tried and tested solutions to no avail. Also try washing your hair with tea tree it is a lice repellent. It is not fool proof but prob make a bit of a difference. Another good idea is to tye your hair back when you are around children...or put a hat on.

well your head will itch a lot at the beginning any way, due to your scalp adjusting and hair tightening etc so i wouldnt be too paranoid about it.

you could wash with teatree or use a harsher ACV rinse. you dont have to cut your hair to get rid of lice...

If i remember correctly nits prefer clean hair so just because you havent washed your hair in a long while doesnt mean your at a higher risk of getting them.

Lice paranoia is one of the downsides to having dreadlocks. It got so bad for me at one point that I thought I felt bugs crawling around on my scalp. In fact as I am writing this and thinking about lice I can feel the imaginary little buggers crawling around on the back of my head. You most likely don't have lice. The way I figure it if I've had lice as long as I thought I did there would be a ton of dead ones. So every day for a couple weeks I would put my head over a dark table, shake and scratch my head a bunch, and check out what falls out. Never once did I see any bugs. I still have paranoia but I pretty much know for a fact that its all in my head... not on it.

Yeah, once the thought of lice arose in my head, I could have SWORN I felt something.
I put my head over a piece of paper and made a shitload of dandruff comeout and I inspected it closely to see if anything moved.

But like you said, it's all mind games. Statistics show that my type of hair gets less lice than that of nice, long, straight clean hair.

trust me, if you get lice you will KNOW you have em. not washed for a while itchies are bad, but headlice itchies are infuriating. you would be scratching without realising you are even doing it. grrrrrrrr!
but delacet gets rid of em in one treatment, no combing. someone has written about a getting a reaction from the stuff, but i never did. it knots hair up a treat too ;)

I had lice paranoia too, but only because my lil' sister had lice all over her kindergarten after some kid brought them in, everything went well tho. And the itching part...dno, during those ~8 months I pretty much haven't had any itches at all, well sometimes after wearing my hat for a while but that applies with or without dreads.
