Drinking socially is one of my favorite pasttimes. It's also a hobby and a way to relax. And I think I've got it down to a science. I know what to drink, how much, when to begin simmering down, when to stop and am in control of my faculties at all times (although I down massive amounts sometimes).

I partaken in every drink known to man, but my favorites are my favorites because of the feeling I get and the lessened effect afterwards.

BEER : I like light beer best because you can drink more of it, the build-up is nice, and the side effects aren't near as bad. Usually, if I have anywhere over a six pack from say 10 to 18, I have to take a hot shower before going to bed, piss as much as possible, take an aspirin and prop my legs up when I sleep to avoid soreness. If I have a little herb, I use it to take the edge off. In the morning I drink a glass of pickle juice and pop another aspirin.

WINE : This can kick your ass in hurry. I only drink certain wines and usually have more of a problem with the after effects than beer or mixed drinks. However, if I chase my wine with room temperature water, I also eat lots of bread and/or crackers whilst drinking it and never get above the my "limit", I can handle the mornings quite nicely with a cold shower and a cup of hot coffee, while sipping coffee and water and chewing minty gum the remainder of the next day.

MIXED DRINKS : I love mixed drinks best. But, margarita is my true love. Margarita Euphoria is what I call it. I always drink one more margarita than I said I would. :) I also lick all the salt off the glass after two or more as well. When I drink margaritas I always take a Centrum vitamin first. I like to eat something veggie or some fruit as well.

LIQUOR : I have to admit my "shot glass" and hard liquor days are pretty well ended. Whereas beer gives me a relaxing and loose "drunk", wine gives me a "chattery" drunk and margarita gives me a "euphoric" drunk, liquor always gave me a "downer" drunk. So, I am not too high on straight liquor. I will admit that one thing that always helped me in my liquor days was to try to chase it with something to dilute it a bit, but hard liquor is really hard to combat. Maybe trying a little herb or some vitamin B, drink a little water here and there and eating something could help. Good luck!

    CHEERS! And BOTTOMS UP!

Propping your legs up keeps the circulation going smoothly where you will not experience soreness in the legs. That is a problem for me, personally.

Pickle juice has salt and vinegar in it. Vinegar is one of the best healing agents of all-time.

See, when I drink I'd rather go for the hard stuff, straight shots, no mixing. Gets me feeling nice in a hurry. [IMG]

Yep. How do you deal with the "hangover" effect or do you have them?

I guess any alcohol with preservatives or sugars in it give hangovers. Many tequila makers avoid using them because it reduces hangovers drastically.

Also, I heard there's a new way of purifying alchohol in the midst, which can eliminate the negative effects of drinking because instead of preservatives the bacteria's are eliminated completely.

Oh, I get them. Luckily I don't drink too often or I'd be in trouble! But if I pace myself, and drink a glass of some good ol' H2O between each shot, it seems to really help.

Are you propping your legs up because of swelling from all the salt w/the margaritas? That would make sense. My family has always drank pickle juice, no heart attacks yet. I like the taste of apple cider vinegar too.

light beer is for sissies who would rather be drinking lemonade anyway....no flavor, no body, nothing.

you wanna feel really nice on just a couple beers? try something with higher alcohol levels (that doesnt mean go for malt liquor...blech)

personally some of my favorites are trois pistoles (9%ABV), chimay grande reserve (9%), samuel smith's imperial stout (7%), salvator doppelbock (7.5%), la fin du monde (9%), mcewan's scotch ale (8%), and maudite (8%)

all will get you buzzed in a hurry, but all are made to sip and relax and enjoy. all are decently heavy, with pretty big malty flavors to complement the higher alcohol levels. personally i'd say a 750mL bottle of la fin du monde followed up with one or two 12oz. bottles of some more normal witbiers or hefeweizens (paulaner makes a good hefe) makes for a pretty good night.

i dont generally get hungover unless i REALLY overdo it though. like when i drank a big bottle of wine on an empty stomach one night when i was dehydrated as it was...

the man who used to post about doing straight shots of high proof absinthe likes LIGHT beer? wierd...anyway, if you want to get more drunk but just really can't put away the beer very easily, try doing like two or three shots before cracking open one of the big 750ml bottles of strong beer....that should do you well.

oh, and i definitely recommend sake very highly if you want to drink a lot....tastewise its sort of like a cross between wine and vodka (if you can believe it)

you can put it away easier than most other types of beer because of its very light body and taste, but it masks a higher alcohol level than most beers reach (11-20%ABV, similar to wines...the high alcohol levels, somewhat winelike tastes, and the lack of carbonation tends to cause people to think of it as a rice-wine, but being undistilled and grain based instead of fruit based it is most definitely a beer)

a more energetic drunk for me than wine, which usually sedates me a good bit, it acts more like liquor for me.

I would drink absinthe if I had some, indeed. But, when I am running low on funds, I buy lite beer. I can't help it if I have a taste for it.

I like a Whisky & Soda on the rocks with a slice of lemon.
