We all lie sometimes, because of fear, to not deal with the consequences of our actions, to keep a certain image about yourself, to get out of trouble.

I'm not saying lying is ever right, but to some extent there are situations were is justifiable, but there are lies that are completely unnecesary and I'll never understand the people who do that and my brother is one of them, so I've had YEARS of study. I no longer confront him, I smile, say yeah, to whatever fantastic story he's telling me.
There are people who lie and play with people's feeling while doing so, I'll never understand them either. I think that's one of the most evil things a person can do and I guess they dont realize (at least, I hope they dont) how much harm this can cause to a person. Human beings are fragile things.

What do you guys do with the liars who you encounter in your life? Do you confront them? do you let them be? do you keep them close to you? or do you push them away?

    hahaha

oh me too!! over and over and over and over again. I want to believe that everyone is good and that they have changed and the story wont repeat itself, but they keep proving me wrong, gotta learn at some point.
I mean, then Im the one who's being bad.

I have a friend who lies constantly

    CONSTANTLY

No malicious lies or anything, just little stuff. I dont know why he does it. I honestly don't know if its a natural habit he cant help, or if he purposely does it to avoid whatever it is he's lying about.

Even when I know for a fact he's lying I don't call him out on it though, theres no point. More often than not it would just lead to an argument that would be worse than the lie in the first place.

oh and aside from that guy I'll believe 99% of lies people tell me :( I'm too trusting it seems :(

Yeah, I dont care when people say non-malicious lies, I guess I dont know, some people just have wild imaginations and need to spice their lives up. I would always say to my brother, that he should start writing, to get a place to put those thoughts.
It just bothers me when people say things to lead people on and that can really damage a person, but I guess they have their reasons too. I just dont seem to think of it being any other than irresponsibility or being manipulative.

I am too trusting too and I think that's a reflection of my own character. In a way I know Im too naive, but also I think I trust people so much, because I feel like they can trust me and usually it's the same way around, when people have really strong trust issues, is because they judge from their own condition, or I guess from things that have happened in their lives, that can really make a person distrust others.

Yeah well, I guess I'd rather trust someone and believe a lie than NOT trust someone and think they're lying when they're telling the truth

I am the exact same way. I find it to be sad to live distrusting others, so I always end up being a fool [IMG]

it's all extremely situational of course
but I think I've learned only to out liars publicly if there is good reason to, and I typically confront them for the fun of it, unless I feel it will senselessly embarrass them or something of the like

personally, I don't have much against lying, or much morals in general, but I try not to.
I think dishonesty causes too much complication and confusion

it depends on a lot of things, but more often than anything else i'll just smile and nod, while basically ignoring everything they say

only time will tell you if a person is honest or a liar. the key to avoiding liars is to take your sweet time getting into a serious relationship with people, and make sure you know who you're dealing with.

I lost my wallet and told my mom that it was stolen from me back in 10th grade and I still feel horrible about it.

That's probably the last major lie I told. I do believe in white lies though. I will tell my mom that I haven't been drinking on a Friday night if it makes her feel better to know that. Or I will cover for a friend if he got himself into some shit, and the only way out is lying.

How do I deal with liars? I tend to avoid them to begin with.

another reason to not be entirely canded is to avoid being discriminated against socially and or economically. which i seriously believe is why most 'fallowers' of most major beliefs that just happen to be dominant wherever they happen to live, claim affiliation with them, usually without really understanding very much about them beyond locally prevailing popular anecdotes, nor caring to.

same goes for idiologies, economic theories and politics in general too.

It is hard to believe that a man is telling the truth when you know that you would lie if you were in his place. ~Henry Louis Mencken
That's about all that comes to my mind when I think of labelling someone as a liar.

But each man creates his own place, and some people would never create certain spaces in which lying would deem okay.

That's not entirely true, we may think we like to know of ourselves as perfect, but given certain situations, I promise you 99% of people would lie if they felt that they 'had' to.

a truth is a truth and a lie is a lie and a person pretty much does both, whether they want to or not, unless their an idiot like me. which is probably why i'm not rich or famous.

theres plenty room for lying or the more useful, neglecting to tell the whole story, in many situations - even though i live by an honor code where i do not lie, cheat, or steal

Absolutely, if people felt that had to in their situation, but each situation is different. Each lie does not weigh the same.

We still call our own shots, and arrive at our own conclusions about what to do next. And like it or not we hold a certain responsibility of action.
