I was forced by my parents to take a Lexapro today, since they want to start me on it. It's bad timing cause I was going to drop acid with friends for my first time tonight. Since it hasn't built up in my system yet and I just took the one pill, will it have any noticable side effects with the LSD?

ssri's are well known for making the LSD less effective.

if you dont want to take the drug you dont have to. your parents cant force you to take a drug you dont think you need. if you dont want to take the drug talk to your doctor about how your parents are forcing you. a doctor can force you to take the drug but there has to be a very good reason for him/her to do so.

at 17 years of age there are many other things you should be doing to help with your depression before you ever consider taking ssri's. this is a very important time in your development - taking these drugs at this stage in life could make you dependant on them - in other words you might not be able to find happiness without the drug later in life - you may never get off of them - it might make matters worse.

your body will get used to the ssri's producing serotonin and you may not know how to function without them.

it is best that you do some research and make the decision on your own. parents who force their kids to do things are wrong. most likely they are a large part of why you are depressed in the first place. tell your parents to fuck off - you are 17 and you can decide what goes into your body.

dont let your parents convince you that it is ok to force you to do anything. when parents force their kids to do something that they dont want to do it is called child abuse. if your parents are not capable of making suggestions in a way that you can make up your own mind then they have failed as parents.

if your father has to force you to cut the lawn then he has failed as a father. he should have raised you in such a way that you understand why it is good for you to help around the house either without being asked or with a little reminder.

any force what so ever is child abuse! dont let your parents get away with it. make up your own mind and tell them how it is going to be.

Thanks for the advice. I was wondering then if since I only took one pill so far will it still affect it that way, and couldn't I just start with say one or two hits and dose further from there to get the trip I want?

Also, about my parents... if I didnt take it, they were going to force me into a 30 day commitment center close to where I live. This is totally dumb shit and (I'm typing from school) I'm considering not even going home and just having a friend drive me from school, but that might make matters worse.

The only reason all of this is happening to me is because I wound up in the hospital after a non-fatal DXM episode a few weeks ago (a cop happened to approach me when I was in la-la-land, I wouldn't have died like my parents claim, I weigh 200 and took 1500mg) and after some of the intense DXM trips I've had my beliefs in this world have changed radically, but I'm still looking for answers to things. I'm not even worried about a bad trip because I believe emotions, even fear, are something to embrace, which is why I didn't want to take an SSRI.

your parents are over reacting big time! and yes if they get their way they will make matters worse.

stand up to them and tell them you will not take this ssri. or you can always say that you are taking them and flush them down the toilet - it is their money wasted anyways.

you can drop L tonight an wouldn't feel any noticable side effects from the lexapro... it takes a couple days for the med to actually get into your system enough for it to be effective

I agree with aliced here, SRRI's are known for not being immediately effective for helping depression, it's usually something that takes awhile before any noticeable difference is being felt. Plus, for a first time LSD experience, it should probably still be very apparent aslong as whatever you get is considerably potent.
