Do you suppose that the Leviathan could have been a chinese river dragon?: "Can you draw out Leviathan with a hook,Or snare his tongue with a line which you lower? 2 Can you put a reed through his nose,Or pierce his jaw with a hook? 3 Will he make many supplications to you? Will he speak softly to you? 4 Will he make a covenant with you? Will you take him as a servant forever? 5 Will you play with him as with a bird,Or will you leash him for your maidens? 6 Will your companions make a banquet of him? Will they apportion him among the merchants? 7 Can you fill his skin with harpoons,Or his head with fishing spears? 8 Lay your hand on him;Remember the battle — Never do it again! 9 Indeed, any hope of overcoming him is false;Shall one not be overwhelmed at the sight of him? 10 No one is so fierce that he would dare stir him up.Who then is able to stand against Me? 11 Who has preceded Me, that I should pay him?Everything under heaven is Mine. 12 "I will not conceal his limbs,His mighty power, or his graceful proportions. 13 Who can remove his outer coat?Who can approach him with a double bridle? 14 Who can open the doors of his face,With his terrible teeth all around? 15 His rows of scales are his pride,Shut up tightly as with a seal; 16 One is so near another That no air can come between them; 17 They are joined one to another,They stick together and cannot be parted. 18 His sneezings flash forth light,And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. 19 Out of his mouth go burning lights;Sparks of fire shoot out. 20 Smoke goes out of his nostrils,As from a boiling pot and burning rushes. 21 His breath kindles coals,And a flame goes out of his mouth. 22 Strength dwells in his neck,And sorrow dances before him. 23 The folds of his flesh are joined together; They are firm on him and cannot be moved. 24 His heart is as hard as stone,Even as hard as the lower millstone. 25 When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid;Because of his crashings they are beside themselves. 26 Though the sword reaches him, it cannot avail;Nor does spear, dart, or javelin. 27 He regards iron as straw,And bronze as rotten wood. 28 The arrow cannot make him flee;Slingstones become like stubble to him. 29 Darts are regarded as straw; He laughs at the threat of javelins. 30 His undersides are like sharp potsherds; He spreads pointed marks in the mire. 31 He makes the deep boil like a pot;He makes the sea like a pot of ointment. 32 He leaves a shining wake behind him;One would think the deep had white hair. 33 On earth there is nothing like him,Which is made without fear. 34 He beholds every high thing; He is king over all the children of pride." "In that day the LORD with His severe sword, great and strong, Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; And He will slay the reptile that is in the sea." According to the descriptions: spits fire, lives in the water, has scales, is snake-like... this could be IMO, what do you think he was?
he was a sea monster...like you. *gasp* are you it!? - It's literal...read Job... According to the discription...there's no speaking against it being a river dragon... Nothing speaks against the fact that dragons existed...
They have some fragments of the OT, not the complete scripture and there are some slight differences. If the muslims wanted to talk about it they would go straight to the christian forum, don't you think? I don't know if I'm the only one but you annoy me ALOT by posting all these christians messages in the islam forum.
How was that a Christian message? At most a Jewish one. What *other* Christian messages are you referring to? They're all compatible with Islam, is a Christian not allowed to talk about the Tanakh with a Muslim??? Considering that Islam's root is also Judaism. Christians talk about Jewish things...why don't they go to the Jewish forums?
almost every Xtian thread becomes my book vs. your book. It's lame, petty and not condusive to REAL dialogue. and no, it's not almost a Jewish message. That was insulting to me as a Jew. I'm here trying to find teh ground where my Islamic brothers and sisters and I are alike, not conversion. And I have to say in this forum, I have never been told I "had" to convert except by the Xtians. Hmmmmmmm. Ru, you get upset when meat heads prostelytize in veggie, why do it here? It's the same idea.
You're a Jew? Cool! I like Jews! ^^ But Job is in the Tanakh, you know. I seriously just want a discussion, of coarse one can only see the negative parts in it, but why? And I don't get upset with meat-heads, unless they get upset with me. I don't know where you got that from, but I respect their descission. Muslims and Atheists are into conversion as well. But different.Muslims have 'Jihad' and many Atheists...just seem to like saying "No, You're dumb. There is no God.". But since you're a Jew, why not tell me what you think of the Leviathan?
The topic may not have been all that relevent to this forum but it sure isnt a reason to get upset. O and sorry ryu for my previous post, I sure hate short replies. Oh and ryu, christians also have(or atleast used to have) jihad since the prpophet(peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said that the greatest jihad(which means struggle really) is that against one self(ones whims and tendacies to sin) but as said before, now its all: "Christ has already died for me, who cares"
Oh yes, I know what you're talking about. You're talking about the 'Crusades' right? The idea of the crusades was stolen from Jihad though. It's the Pope's fault, because he was evil.:X Don't believe those who go " oh, Christ died for me. So I can do what I want because my sin's gone." No. ^^; That's not Christian at all. That's... Lucifer and the flesh. (good 'ol flesh, we know it well ). I've got a question though, does the Koran record anything in Job? Is there a Leviathan or Behemoth in it? Thought there was...
