I hear it more and more from people and it really is puzzling. Why is it that some religious people feel that if it's fun it's wrong or evil? (I don't say all because it's not all people who are Religious and I don't single out Christians because some people may have other beliefs. I'm just saying that some people that believe in God.) I'll give you a few examples. Some people believe that Halloween is the devil's birthday instead of a fun way for people, mainly kids, to dress up and have fun. Some people believe that certain types of music cause you to do sinful things that you otherwise may not be compelled to do. (In other words, Elvis, or Marvin made you do have unprotected,and unmarried sex.) Some people even go so far as to call certain types of music evil. Some people feel that celebrations are evil. People shouldn't do things that involve having "sinful fun" like dancing, or listening to music other than religious. I just want to get people's views on this subject.
Most religious doctrines have been handed down, unabridged for hundreds if not thousands of years.. Nobody thought back then, we would evolve the way we have. I think some people need to have a scapegoat for the ills of society. If you listen to "What's going on" by Marvin, I don't think there could be a more holy sentiment then that of the song. There are those who don't understand self expression, dancing, music.. And because of that; they will it to the devil.
_______________________ If you listen to some people you'd almost believe that they think that God was against having fun. That you were just put on earth to repent for your sins, fear the conciquences of your sinful life, turn away from anybody that tries to have any type of fun because they are evil, lived tucked away from the world and then you die and go to Heaven. I wonder what they think life is like up there.
It's kind of sad when you think about it. That means everything that's fun should be banned. Who wants to live without fun?
I guess they believe that this life is for struggle and pain, and the next world is when the payoff comes. Seems wasteful and needlessly pessimistic to me....
its not about being agains fun...its about the attatchments with certain things..ppl get very wrapped up in attatched ideas and such..and being religious..they dont want to do anything to mess up with their God. Im a christian...I have come to the conclusion that halloween is what you make of it and im sure ill take my kids out trick or treating cuz I dont see haloween as anything beyond a chance to have fun and get free candy. Music wise..im not against rock music..actually.im a huge fan or rock, punk and metal..but I will say I try and make sure most of the music I listen to is of christian content.. Id say about 90 percent of the bands I listen to are christian hard rock bands..I decided to switch over from popular music simply cuz music is a huge part of my life, and I think for me personally to give such a huge influence in my life over to God, I can only benifet. So far, Id have to say that my hypothesis has worked out good in my life.
Bellfire the reason people think like that is the exact same reason as why you think it odd. That is what they believe. Now the question becomes why is your idea better than theirs?
