Well first I need some details... What is your preferred genre? Classic rock is technically a genre, but there is so much more upon attention to detail. Name a couple bands that you already know of and like?
I like rock & blues from 60's & 70's. Those are generally my fav decades to listen to. My favorite band is the rolling stones, but i've heard/have all their songs. I also like doors, pink floyd, zeppelin. But i've heard pretty much most of their stuff aswell.
Nektar is a good psy-progressive band from England in the mid 70's. Very respectable band. Bunch of stuff on youtube, as well as their website. Which contains their entire catalog free of charge. All you have to do is register with an email address and their jukebox is open Rory Gallagher, Roy Harper, T.Rex, Mountain, Leslie West, Deep Purple, Rush, Queen. If those aren't obscure enough just let me know. I have an arsenal on this ipod.
oh, i went through phases with early mott the hoople, late procul harum, robin trower [of course], johnny winter, various prog/jazz things [esp. mahavishnu orchestra], blah blah blah you might try early fleetwood mac, for example, very good before they got nicks and buckingham - the jeff beck group, or butterfield blues band, some people like savoy brown and humble pie . . . the things that stuck the longest were the mothers of invention, captain beefheart and his magic band, the velvet underground [and lou reed solo], the stooges

Someone mentioned it already but Blue Cheer is a great band that did a lot to shape rock. Their first album is not something you would sit down and relax to. It sounds like 3 guys in a garage with really loud amplifiers---but it was groundbreaking. They were the first ones to redo Summertime Blues in a rock format, but The Who then did a version that wasn't quite as loud and therefore got more airplay. But the Blue Cheer version has been getting played more recently. But every song on the first album (Vincibus Eruptum) is early hard-hitting acid rock and is great stuff. You can find them on You Tube. The next 2 albums have a couple of songs each that are pure genius, the rest are typical crap that you often found in the albums in the 60's between the good songs. I'll find some clips for you. Their Love Gun song, I forget the title, maybe The Hunter, was probably inspiration for a Led Zeppelin lick, "They call me the hunter..." Someone else posted Ten Years After, but a clip that was different from all the stuff that made them famous. Sure, I want to change the World is a good song, but if you want to see them in real action watch, I'm Coming Home in the Woodstock movie. They did a whole bunch of great rocking blues. They did my favorite version of Hello Little School Girl. Tons of great stuff.

A little known band from the Detroit area around 1970. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t40INnb6DnY"]Frijid Pink - House of the Rising Sun - YouTube
iron maiden, saxon, scorpions, girls school, lindisfarne, queen, status quo, uriah heap, king crimson, etc etc
I don't consider them a lesser known band, but it is certainly lesser known than a lot of bands people have mentioned: Humble Pie. They've got some great stuff, here is one of their bigger hits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdXjm8pZMws"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdXjm8pZMws And of course, did someone mention Uriah Heap? Here is the Ten Years After version of Hello Little School Girl. I guess you could get thrown in jail for singing this one today---i.e. its politically incorrect. Yeah, that's right, times were different then man. (Probably a lot of us knew that older hippy dude, often too old to actually be a hippy, but all the chicks dug him, and he was kind of like the old guru, some old single guy with his own pad, and there would always be chicks hanging out there, and one or two would often spend the night, sometimes more. Yeah, I wanted to be one of those guys too one day---but now it would probably get me arrested (and my wife would get mad too. Darn it!! I never get to do anything! Mannnnn!!!) "...come on get under the covers, and I'll be a little school boy too..." (Actually its a good thing I took the time to write that, because the version I originally intended to post would probably get me in trouble on this forum---A bunch of chicks running toppless to the stage in the middle of it----I'll just tuck that away into my own video files here...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pk2vOvAszE&feature=related"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pk2vOvAszE&feature=related
You can't be a hippy if you don't listen to Canned Heat. They had a lot of great hits, and once again, I don't think they are a lesser band. Here are their 2 biggest hits. The first one was a video done for German TV, and the Bear is holding his flute wrong at the beginning. The stroy I hear is that they felt stupid playing to canned music, and so he purposely did that as a joke. There is a better version of this out there, I think the guy on You Tube dubbed his music over the original or something---but it s the same song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=audxGqo5AkQ"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=audxGqo5AkQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRKNw477onU&feature=related"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRKNw477onU&feature=related I saw this band at a blues festival a few years ago, and though the drummer is the only original one (and he wasn't even the original drummer), the others are dead, they still cranked out a great concert---I felt like I was back there in the day. A lot of old hippies, and the whole place had a magical feel of love and peace, I haven't felt that for years. They have put out some new music in recent years---some great rocking blues, but they have some great old songs too that were hits.
