Lenny Kravitz: Jimi Hendrix wannabe or .....?

...simply a modern day Hendrix-like artist?
i guess one can have varied opinions on Kravitz.
i really don't have much of an opinion about him hence this thread.

I'm a white anglosaxon blond haired bloke and even I could do a better job of impersonating Hendrix.
The only similarities I see are his 'fro when he grows it out and his skin tone. His music is just watered down pop rock pap. I suspect if he actually wanted to (or anybody else for that matter) could do a better job of copying Hendrix.
Not defending him BTW though, can't stand the muppet

 

i hate with lenny kravitz with such a furious passion, i would probably kill anyone who said he could even compare to hendrix. and then i would use their corpse to beat kravitz to death.

I do like some Kravitz songs, but they are run-of-the-mill pop-rock stuff.

It's like asking if Chrsitina Aguilera is a Janis Joplin wannabe. Even if he wanted to be like Hendrix, he completely lacks the talent. Totally different leagues, my friend.

 

i dont think hes trying to be hendrix. I think justin timberlake is trying to be like micheal jackson lol but lenny is different then hendrix to me

 

I can't say if he is consciously trying to be like Hendrix or not. What I do know is that Lenny Kravitz is a poor excuse for talent.

The only reason he is so popular is because the women love him for his looks.

His music is pretty much just as hollow and superficial as he appears to be.

 

woa woa woa, first off Kravitz doesn't try to be like hendrix, there are similarities and Kravitz did a cover out of deep respect for the man as have MANY other artists, none of which try to be like hendrix. Hendrix is an idol and as such will be perminantly imbeded in the creative output of suceeding artists for generations to come.

Second, what's with all the Lenny bashing? I saw the guy live and he is by far one of the greatest rockstars walking the earth right now, and I've seen my fare share of live acts. The man has pure rock star class, talent asside(which he isn't too short of either).

He might be good at playing the role of a "rock star," but that doesn't make him a talented artist.

Image and style don't equate to talent. And all that image crap is lame anyway.

I like that "Are You Gonna Go My Way" song Lenny does...Thats about it though...Even John Paul Johns digs the song,he played with lenny on some award show.

 

I can't say I'm a big Lenny fan, but I did he see him in concert about how two weeks ago. There was a big rock festival in Yokohama two weeks ago, and he performed just before the RHCP (who I'd come to see). Overall, I can't say I was too thrilled with his performance, when he ended strong with "Are You Gonna Go My Way" and "Let Love Rule."

As being as Jimi Hendrix wannabe, I don't see it. I see why people would make those comparisons, but I think his music is very, very different from Jimi Hendrix.

He is an extremely talented artist. He writes all his own songs, as well as songs for lots of other stars, ie: Justify My Love for Madonna.
He also does a lot of the production work on his songs.
Most impressive of all, besides writing killer tunes with great messages, is the fact that he plays all the instruments on his recordings.
How can anyone say that he is just playing the role...........Elvis Presley was maybe, but not Lenny, he is the real deal.

To call him the Hendrix of today is probably the fastest way to prove that you know nothing at all about music.

Not only does Lenny suck, but he's got to copy people to get famous... Jimi created his own sound, and nobody's come close to copying it since... Lenny can't decide if he's going to be the next Jimi or the next Prince.

And Jimi never made crap music... I doubt he would've ever collaborated with Jay-Z or some other shitty rapper.

Lenny's one of the posterboys for today's shit music.

 

Personally I think he's an awful 'musician'. Like someone said, the only reason he's made it big is becuase of his outrageously chiselled features. One for the teenyboppers im afraid.

well, the dude isnt very original at all...... and besides his music is horrible and they tend to play it ad-nauseum on the radio.

 

This is a hard one to answer. I believe there is alot of commonalties between the two, but I wouldnt say he is a copy of Hendrix-one on will ever accoplish that. I dont think Lenny is a no talent hack-I just dont believe he is one of the most talented musicians in this day. The only reason he is so big is because of his look.
