lately i have been wearing 10 lb ankle weights on each leg 8-12 hours a day i also do leg lifts 30 reps a day and 100 knee lifts a day along with any other lifting i do while im sitting around i'm looking for a bit more leg strength but mostly I'd like to increase my speed i kind of worried that rong exercises will bulk my legs and hurt speed what are some good leg exercises to help myself get faster?
i think the only thing that's going to make you faster is practice. bulking up your legs does not necessarily bulk up the muscles you need for speed.
"i kind of worried that rong exercises will bulk my legs and hurt speed " i know which is why i want to know what good exercises will help i already practice
i'm assuming your talking about running... what type of speed are you looking for? sprinting or endurance? both use different exercises....
this thread just reminded me that my gym membership is over and of course, we have no money to renew it. and of course, since i just quit smoking, i could really use it (the membership) right about now. ah, they have a pool and a hot tub. *cries*

yes i do mean running right now im looking for sprinting speed i run a 6 minute mile so im happy with that any ideas?
i found some articles for you about sprinting exercises... nine sprinting exercises full sprinter program both are by Tom Green, whose a world class sprinter...their both pretty good articles. a lot of the exercises you dont' even need to go to the gym, you can do outside - for free...but if you have a gym membership, use free weights to do squats, snatches, bench press, leg press, etc. if your serious about sprinting, your not going to want to bulk up, you want to stay lean but firm. but a lot of the exercises you can do outside, so yea. hope that helps... _________ i use to run a 6-minute mile. that was last spring, then i had a knee injury. i had to have surgery. i haven't ran since. i have a gym membership at Golds Gym. since i'm a student, its only $40/month. but since i'm at school in another state, i can keep my account locked for $8/month and open it whenever i am home which would be in the summer.
for two people it was about $700 for a year... and the gym was NICE. had everything. we got a discount though through my husband's health insurance.
The best thing for sprinting IMHO is to jog for a while, then sprint for like 300 meters jog for another 200 meters then sprint for 300 meters... keep that up twice a day till just before you think your going to pass out, then do it one more set. As for leg strength, other then the exercises and running, get a heavy bag (has to be more then 40lbs... I'd go for a 60 pound one) and just work it with the legs... It'll help with quick bursts of speed.
Do alot of squat types that work the front of your leg cause thats where your speed will come from it also makes you jump higher.
