So - today I went to my first ever gathering of Leather community - my first time exploring this and I had a chance to learn and experience what this community encompasses. I have never really given much thought to to various kinks, and I definitely had some preconceived notions about Leather guys - most of my preconceived notions were wrong from what I can tell. This was a group of people who believe strongly in transparency, loyalty and commitment to good communication and honesty. I watched a bondage, rope demonstration that was fascinating. The guy who did it has a way that presents as sensuous and it's almost like watching a dance. I think I would really enjoy experiencing that the way he presented it. I love how open and friendly they all are - and even though they said that permission to touch must be given, it sure seemed like they were not afraid to show affection by way of hugs and kisses - and it was clear this group had a lot of respect for one another. I also learned that most people are approachable and, even those you might think are not, all you gotta do is ask - and they will tell you. For me, being not a great one for engaging in conversation at the start, this is hard - I don't feel very creative in my casual chatter. But it sounds like most guys who look the type are actually quite friendly and engaging. They are glad to talk and they are happy to engage in conversation about their community, what they like and how they like to do things.
I'm gonna bump this up. Preconceived notions generally are! The kink community is (mostly) a pretty good bunch of people, and they're happy to welcome explorers. Mostly. There are always some shit-for-brains people in any grouping. Some forms are most definitely very sensual. They're a pas de deux that involves rope. They can also have strong Zen-like qualities and be quite meditative; like Zazen, except somebody gets trussed up. You really oughta try it.
