OMG Why don't people keep their dogs put up??? I was out having a nice walk with the 80 lb. Piper and the 62 lb. Emma. They were doing so nicely on just their 2nd attempt at walking in tandem. Luckily, we were inside the tree line when we all looked and saw the neighbors dog, also a female Pit Bull, on the other side of the tree line. My girls were pulling and growling. I made the mistake of yelling to the dog "Go Home!"; which usually works when I'm by myself. She's pretty afraid of humans. When I yelled at the dog, and stomped at it, Piper went ape shit. Piper was in the harness, standing up on her back legs, attempting to drag me toward the other dog. By now, Emma is engaged and pulling on the slip leash, toward the other dog. So, I now have a combined 142 lbs. off Pit Bull pulling to attack the intruder. It's lucky that I'm a heavy woman! I took a risk and put both girls leashes in one hand while I picked up a very large rock to throw at the other Pit Bull. It worked. She ran off and eventually I could get my girls turned away and back toward the house. Stupid people. They almost caused something that would have turned out very badly.
Yes leashes, but those danged pit's just tend to be too aggressive towards other animals period. When I see pits, rotties, mastifs and such on the loose, it makes me want to carry a shotgun.
The dog came back a minute ago to smell where my dogs had been. I went out to run it off and it barked at me for the first time ever. I've now got the BB Gun by the door and I'm a good shot. Maybe if I pop it in the ass a few times it will learn some respect.
My old house was on the edge of town on a gravel road. There was a pit bull about 3 blocks away that attacked another dog and nearly killed it. Then it got into the fenced back yard of an elderly couple 2 houses down from me and they helplessly watched it kill their dog. My daughter was only 3 so we were worried. There were only 5 houses in our immediate area so we had a little neighborhood meeting. It was decided that there would be a loaded shotgun just inside the back door of my neighbors house. If the dog came back...it was toast and if the police showed up....nobody heard anything. We all really hoped it didn't come to that but that dog was clearly dangerous. As it turned out....the city took the dog and put it to sleep.
Nobody needs to let their dog run freely all over the property of others. There are always small children, small animals, elderly people out trying to enjoy their own yards. I don't care if it's a chihuahua or poodle, etc. It's always going to be bothering people if it comes into their yard.
almost hit a dog on my bicycle going down a wet hill at 30 mph.. i said "SHIT!" and this woman comes out and tells me to watch my language in her neighborhood: an old country road with two houses on it and a chicken coop. she told me i didn't need to be on my bicycle i needed to be sitting in church.
LOL, I suspect a lot more would have been coming out of your mouth than 'shit' had you hit the dog and gone down at 30 mph.
People just need to be able to control there dogs. On or off the leash. I rarely have mine on a leash but he's in control. Leashes don't mean anything if you can't control them!
Our dogs are always on leashes if they're outside of our fence. There is nearly a 100% chance that our bigger dog would attack other male dogs near him (he was like that when we got him) so we're very careful with him. Very nice dog....he just hates other male dogs. No idea why.
thats a shame, i,m sorry to hear that. i don,t ever let ma dog outside alone! my gosh my dog (rottiweiler) has never been on a leash, expect to go inside petco, and public events. she listens, and stays at my side.( i take her in the bank, the ladies love it. feed her cookies) i spent alot of time training, and just being with her she,s ma best friend.. your right! theres no reason you should be worried/chased by a loose dog. esp. a mean aggr. pitbull, these kind of dogs and their often careless owners give every kind of dog owner a bad name. pitbulls are not public friendly, or to other animals, only their owner. call the dog catcher or the humane soc.to take them dogs.(and i,m sorry you have to take your time to call) be safe.
Do you know the pitbull's owners? Can you speak with them? I have 4 acres here and will let my pugs go outside one at a time or 2 at a time sometimes. They never leave the perimeters here....except one day, I had two outside and ran inside for a moment.....took my eyes off the ball, so to speak....and when I went back outside. They were gone!!!! No where. I searched for an hour everywere...and could not find them. I was panicked......A lady comes riding up in a big vehicle...and says...."Did you lose 2 pugs?" I have no idea how she knew I lived here, but she was a guardian angel that day...She found them crossing a busy road here about half a mile away...and stopped her vehicle and called to them. They could have easily got killed that day. I shudder to think of what might have happened..... I am forever grateful to this woman ...and I will never take my eyes off of the ball again. She said she saw me alot with them, so she knew I was the owner, but how she knew I lived here, is still a mystery to me...I did not ask her that.
The owner's of the above mentioned dog moved away and took their dog with them, thankfully. We had another incident this morning with a dog roaming into our yard while I had my two dogs out. This time, hubby tried to restrain one of the dogs. He's frail. He should know better. He ended up getting pulled down, and scraped/cut on some of the stuff he crashed out on the porch. This dog was friendly, just a big pup with some kind of slight crippling of his front paw. I went back out to try to find him after I'd gotten my dogs back inside. He had on a collar but I know he's lost.
