Just got back from seeing Santana in Allentown. This was an historic concert as it was one of only three shows this year which feature the original group playing together for the first time since 1973. Carlos Santana, Gregg Rolie, Neal Schon, Michael Carabello & Michael Shrive played the first half and the current line up played the second along with Carlos' wife Cindy Blackman on drums. The first half of the show consisted of 3 drum kits, conga drums, 2 keyboard players, bass guitar and Carlos on lead which comes out to 8 people so I don't know who the other 3 people were. For the first song they played a video of their performance at Woodstock on a large screen behind them as they played the same song live. It was synced very well to the live performance. That was pretty cool as you could see them as they were when they were young and see them as they are now. The sound and playing was fantastic. Altogether there were a total of 16 different musicians on stage, but not all at the same time. Journey was also on the bill and Neal Schon played with them also. Luckily for us Santana played before Journey so after suffering through the first Journey song...we booked. A couple other old geezers in our row did the same thing and there were a few in the parking lot also making a break for it. Some of them were making a slow break for it as their canes were slowing them down. I brought my binoculars to check out the crowd for babes, but didn't have much luck. The babes are getting pretty scarce in my age bracket so I may leave the binoculars home next time (Robin Trower). The other amusing thing was how all the old dudes were sucking down $15.00 beers then they had a huge pile up at the restroom during the intermission. Usually the ladies room is bad but the guys room was stacked up 15 or 20 deep in all directions, there musta been over a thousand guys trying to get in the door....seriously. They just released a new CD yesterday so we picked it up. Not bad. Here's a nice spacey tune I really like from the new CD: http://youtu.be/Psb-Ilv7dA8
Nice, I love Santana, Journey as the opening act could be a lot worse. Robin Trower bridge of sighs is in my cd changer right now though. So who do you consider an "old dude". Last Santana concert for me a few years back this older dude snuck in a case under a blanket and flattened a 20 something that grabbed my girlfriends ass and then asked what I was going to do about it in a condescending way.
Well, I like what I like. I've always found Journey to be boring, but I'm old and I can understand other people liking what they like. Just got tickets for Paul McCartney.......
Glad that you had a good time and they still had it and it sounded great. Always more important than it being a historic event
