why do we still call him an american cyclist? he lives primarily in spain sure he's got citizenship but come on, that's just passport, prosecution and taxes......
but if someone moves to america we call them an american olympic athlete even if they were born and raised in say china or the U.S.S.R...... granted we rush through citizenship for them, but still they were born and raised elsewhere is it a one edged sword because we're polyglot? that just doesn't sit well with me, mostly because minorities don't have equal rights....
even if someone from russia becomes an american citizen, they are still "russian." Its the culture you were brought up in, not just a citizenship..you can technically change your nationality, but not your upbringing. When i move to Spain in afew months, I will not become Spanish..I will always be american whether I like it or not
but the media calls them american athletes, so does the IOC despite being from wherever in reality he is american, but why doesn't he enter under spain? (you know what I mean I think) also why did the post office used to sponser him, they have a government sponsored\enforced monopoly over letter carriage..... what do they need to advertise\sponsor an athlete for? thankfully they didn't this year...
that post office thing is strange, why advertise when you are the only game in town, I agree you have a point when it comes to the olympics...I'm not that clear on it, was everyone on Amstrongs team American...I didn't think the tour de france was arranged by nationality
Well the post office still has to compete for package shipment...you know against Fed Ex, UPS and the rest of the others...So I'm assuming thats why they sponsor him.
so you have those things also. i was thinking that's our invention . a lot of sport clubs are sponsored by communal, city-owned company. it's just some kind of money-washing scam. they are giving money to that lazy bastards and then crying when new garbage trucks or tramways need to be bought. shit.
Lance Armstrong isn't an American. He's Texan... old school. Born a Texan, die a Texan. Can't help the rest of you unless someone wants to have my baby. I heard on the Discovery Channel that Armstrongs heart was 20% bigger then a normal mans. I dunno if thats true, but I wish people would say things like that about me. Lance Armstrongs a hell of a guy. Not enough for me to watch people ride bikes on ESPN for two weeks, but still, quite a guy.
I've always wondered...what do they do when they are riding those bikes for so long and have to um, you know, go?
They take breaks, but seriously, damn Lance Armstrongs an impressive guy. He got testicular cancer that spread to his heart and lungs *Somehow* and they said he'd probably die, so guy decides to go out and win the Tour De France 7 times. Wow... I'd probably let Lance Armstrong have me if he wanted.
America will happily claim anyone who will advance their stature in the international community. And good luck seeing them let go of anyone who can do the same. Liabilities they'll drop like a bad habit and unknowns can come and go as they please. America's about image. Plain and simple.
shure, all top athletes have bigger hearts than usual. that can be serious medical problem when they retire. lot of olympic-quality athletes die in their fifties...
Everyones about image all the time. Anyone will hoist up their ball cancer overcoming supermen every chance they get. You think Armstrongs parents din is decorated with pictures of David Beckham? Hell no.
I think if Lance Armstrong would have been in Louisiana, he would back peddled his bike in the gulf and sent katrina straight back to the Atlantic.
I think Sheryl Crow has some competition for Lance Armstrong's hand in marriage, cause Lodui is IN LOVE
In fact, I think if Aliens we're about to blow up the Earth, and they said ''why shouldn't we? we'd show 'em Lance Armstrong. And Norman Borlaug. And that Fergie chick from The Black Eyed Peas. Yowza.
You're not going to sing Lodui and Lance sitting in a tree are you? Seriously though, I can't see how anyone couldn't have so much respect for that man. He's not my fav athlete cause like I said, I can't bring myself to watch biking for very long, but he is an incredible guy. There must be so many B sports dramas being made about the man right now. Hell you don't even need a title. Armstrong holds up.
