Koran Burning. Who would like a bet with me...?

...that even after Obama said don't do it. The great and the good in the Christian and Islamic faiths said don't do it...the burning of the Koran will still go ahead and we'll be watching it morning noon and night on the news. Bonus, it'll be in glorious HD. I think it would have less of an effect if the news broadcasters ignored it. Like that is ever going to happen.

This is one of the weirdest pieces of "news" I have seen in my life. To burn any book is ridiculous and shows abject stupidity, but what actual harm is done by doing so? Not much except a little pollution around the site of the burning. For muslims and the rest of the world to get all het up about it ,make it a major story and fear retribution from ignorant ,brain washed religious, homicidal maniacs, shows how small minded and distracted humans can be these days. Do people take to the streets and demand jobs? Equality? Justice? The end to famine,starvation? The end to humans being shot--hacked to pieces--blown up--raped--to being screwed out of everything they own--the homeless--the millions of animals put to death every year--the disparities between the haves and the have nots--everything that really should matter on earth???? The answer is obviously an endless string of no-no-no ect-ect-ect. And some ass-munch is going to burn a book and here we go. I've said this over and over and I'm going to say it again----EVOLUTION IS TOO FUCKING SLOW. ----"people seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of their character"=RW Emerson.

but muslims see the actual text of the quran as something sacred in itself, which is why burning it is so "bad"

the whole 'satanic verses' controversy, to me, was the idea in the book that the quran was transcribed improperly, not exactly as muhammad received it

on the other hand

some muslims go further and think that the very translation of the quran is bad

my former co-worker was struggling to learn arabic so he could really read it, even though i'm sure there were english and urdu editions readily available

It's sad but the above will act upon any provocation however small the group carrying it out is.
Instead of a loon burning the Koran...It will be "The west" burning the Koran.
With wall to wall coverage it will be given more credance than it deserves.
The media, imho, will not be able to stop themselves showing the burning, while telling us all the potential consequences beforehand.

I don't like that book, had to read it for school, and one year I did actually burn my schoolbook, but it wasn't that one.

US pastor Terry Jones cancels Koran burning


The pastor of a small US church who planned to burn copies of the Koran on the anniversary of 9/11 has cancelled his protest.
Terry Jones said he was calling off the event after the group behind a planned Islamic centre near Ground Zero in New York agreed to relocate it.

We shall see.
