"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."

Until one realizes how little one actually knows,it's better to listen than try to prove how "much" one knows. Specialists,by the way,can be pretty dumb about other than their specialty.

maybe by sharing.. what they THINK they know, it is a way of learning. more. i think a lot of statements are questions, that is if they are uncertain what they are spouting about. but at least it leaves room for correction. and theres no such thing as a silly question

I just let them prattle on and pretend I'm interested. Inside I'm usually laughing because of the absurd crap that they are spewing.

As one who actually knows it all, I take offense to this thread! It's demoralizing. ;)

Oh yes...the reason they talk so much is to attract attention.

I respect their ability to "know" what they know and usually either confront their own beliefs with mine and challenge them - results in either them rage-quitting (I'm a pretty damn good speaker and I have a lot of experience arguing :p ) or a really good discussion ensues.

Usually a know-it-all can be unmasked when they get pissed off or let themselves jump from topic to topic, exposing their inability to express an idea all the way through.

That being said, I am guilty of being a "know-it-all" at times, and is something I am and have been working on. So far so good, I have bitten my tongue many times - you get used to the taste of blood.

I do concern myself with how I am perceived, only because I don't want to be misunderstood. I try to be as true to myself and concise as possible.

I know a few folk like this. I just kinda nod along, laugh when it's expected. Can't be bothered with confrontation or any of that...

I say let them have there fun. While it can get irritating they'll realize that they don't know it all sooner or later. Hopefully...
