He knows if anyone does anything militarily, China will step in. NK military isn't as badass as he wants people into believe.
Someday the little bastard (KJ-U) is gonna fuck up and get his. I think it would be funny if we snuck in in the night, kidnapped him and his main cronies, stuck them in a freight box off the coast with a bomb and
    take over his "empire".

There is a long list of bullshit he and his dad have been allowed to get away with, since the 70's, China is the only reason he gets away with it.

    Hi scratched..

I think the world probably feels if he hits USA, then he can do anything, do you think UN will cause problems for the US?

I don't think he can hit us, his firepower so far has proven to be fairly junky. lol

If he does hit us, I don't think the results will be good for him. With Putin on our side, it will be us, SK and Russia against China and NK.
Something I read a while back gave me the impression that if NK is the aggressor, China may not be so inclined to support him.
I think he has a delusional Napoleonic Disorder myself.
Trump is building our military back up, Obama had it down to what it was between WWI and WWll.
Of course it takes an act of Congress to declare war, but we've been screwing around in the middle east for years without declaring war. I don't think that was a great idea, it's why they are crap now.
But hell, what do I know? lol

The last one KJ-Un put up got to the area around Japan. I doubt they were thrilled.
If he ever puts one on Alaska, it will probably be ON....
We have anti-aircraft missile batteries in Alaska, that's where my dad was in early 60's.
If it gets into the Yukon Territory, Canada won't like that either.
I've been hoping NK would get their head out of their ass, but looks like they may learn the hard way if they keep it up.

China and Russia have had a long history of being allies. I believe the two have the closest ties?

Funny that the Stoners of Pineapple Express and other movies have Kim nailed while the MSM is in full whitewash mode.

The current range of the largest NK ballistic missile (Taepodong 2) is 6,000 km. It's land-based and could reach Alaska and possibly Hawaii. The rumor is that they are developing a Taepodong 3 which is supposed to be able to reach California, but so far nobody has seen one and nothing like it has been tested. What NK doesn't have is a submarine launched nuke. But the US does and a US nuclear submarine could be off the coast of NK right now and nobody would know it, they can stay submerged for months.

So the US could literally destroy the population and governmental centers of North Korea with a single ship loitering under the waves. But would they? Not likely. The US doesn't want a nuclear conflict, which is why they have so many nukes. Sounds like backward logic, but mutually assured destruction does work with larger nuclear nations. Even if NK obliterates Anchorage, the response would likely be conventional because the court of world opinion would not look favorably on a superpower squashing a bug. While the NK leader talks a big game, he doesn't have enough nukes for an extended campaign, so it's unlikely the US would be his actual target.

Consider how many other nations are within range that would likely buckle under a nuclear threat if NK was inclined to use the threat to win concessions. And that's the likely use he has for these weapons. It's much like the old movie "The Mouse that Roared". NK needs food, so even having a nuclear program is a human rights tragedy.

    Well said DP..Good post!

I would hate for a nuclear threat to happen, I know it would be a bad world war, one we wouldn't recover from, that scares me!

The only thing keeping him in line is China. They can not afford to have him go too far off the ranch.

I think if he could fire and do damage he would. At this time he does not have the long range needed to do so.

NK is the bratty teen but China is the strict parent. For now.

Seems like an Accident is awaiting to happen - and in such cases, often it is pro-active, preemptive and potentially dangerous actions which follow

I'm guessing if he ever even comes close to US shores our surface-to-air heat seeking missiles will disperse his threat.

The little chunker just wants to play tough guy. With China behind him, he can get away with it.

But how long before China gets tired of backing up his frivolous ass?

What worries me more, long term, is Japan's leakage of nuclear waste daily into the Pacific Ocean. How will affect the fish, etc. in the ocean? I know this is a change of subject...[IMG]
But right now that situation needs quicker attention.
