I just was wondering if some of you would be interested to know. I think I found a way to kill flies humanely. Well, actually I discovered the method over twenty years ago now. But I think it still passes the test of time. I fill a squirt bottle with rubbing alcohol. (But I am sure ethyl alcohol would work. As would wood alcohol. Heck, you could even use high proof vodka.) Then I spray them (with the stream setting) with it. Two squirts are always required, for some reason. It seems humane. Alcohol is after all a potent central nervous system depressant. So I would assume that it would just put them painlessly to sleep. And they don't seem to mind. In fact, after the first squirt, they often fly towards me, as if they are begging for more. I know that there are a lot of vegan people on these boards. Maybe you could use a humane method like this. It is not as quick as a fly swatter. It is a lot less messy though--which also a plus . But feel free to critique my idea though. Is it the most practical? Is it the most ethical? I would love to have your thoughts on the matter.

Works Well.....So Does Spray N Wipe......But The Best Is Spray Starch But It Tends To Leave A Sticky Mess.....WD-40 Works Well Too If You Light It With A Cig Lighter..... Too Bad About Burning The House Down....But At Least You Get The Fly...... Cheers Glen.
In an experiment which I read about, male and female flies were put together with access to alcohol. The flies that mated often took very little alcohol, but the unsuccessful male flies took a lot. So that explains all those barflies I see drowning their sorrows.

humane would be to find a way to not have to kill anything. not something i would expect anything human to be able to achieve. once upon a time there were these things called screen doors and windows. there is of course our internal ecology, where things much smaller then flies kill each other all the time. if we did not have this, we would all die very quickly ourselves. reality is complex and not so simple.
Just so you know, before finding their way into your home, the flies were likely last seen walking across piles of animal shit! That's why I hunt them down and kill them ASAP!
the most humane way to kill a fly is to wait like one day, and it's probably dead of old age. are you sure? swatting a fly makes a small splatter of fly. spraying a fly at least twice makes at least two large spray spots, plus a fly corpse.
