LMAO!!! Seriously? We also can't compare 9/11 to World War II yet every 9/11 we remember it. My point obviously is not that Kent State was like World War II. My point is that there is a very important political lesson to remember here.
How old are you? Age should not be an issue in terms of being knowledgeable about the history, but surely there have been traumatic events, like 9/11, in your life that have impacted the way you think and feel, and that you will always remember. I could see a millennial, for example, saying 'who cares, they probably didn't even have PlayStation back then.' Kent State was a major breach of trust, perpetrated against a people who despite a decade of assassinations and a government that worked against the people, still believed that Nixon was for the people and that, even if we disagreed with his policies, he would do whatever he had to to protect us. (and look where we are now...)
Either you're pulling my chain or you're fucked. I don't bear a grudge and I don't "continually remember bad stuff". I'm observing a 50th anniversary to give the tragedy the respect it deserves. This Friday May 8th is the 75th anniversary of VE Day, Germany's surrender. Should we disregard observing that anniversary because so many people died in that war? Of course not.
Okay man. To spare you (and myself) having to read the expletives you casually throw into your posts, I'll cry "uncle." You are right and I am wrong ...
Because May 4 is a day of remberance for us. We are not going to forget what happened or those kids. Also we need to remember that this can happen again.
Let's not forget that there were civil rights abuses by the Nixon DOJ at college campuses all over the country. Indiana University at Bloomington was one, Colorado State was too. And Cal State Santa Monica and Berkley were running 24/7 resistance back them.
it IS happening again. with what trump just did, calling in the military to violate the constitutional right of peaceful assembly.
Let's just say it could happen right now. There have been numerous complaints about police brutality in their response to the protests, and if it's not curbed the next step could be shootings. And it appears Trump has no interest in curbing it.
