In the late 70s and early 80s there was an odd rumor that he was actually John Holmes.

Then Holmes died and the rumor with him.

I came back to read what others wrote, scanned yours, and laughed... he really was perfect in his role as Eddie Haskell. So to sum it up, the rumour started because kids watched the show Leave it to beaver..., grew up started watching porn, thought, big dick, yep eddy hashel = big dick, jerk

 

Actually I think it was the look. If you put Holmes mustache onto Eddie, it's a very close match. And this rumor was pre-internet by a decade. Also, since Osmond didn't do a lot of follow-up acting people weren't aware of how much his appearance may have changed as he grew older. So when Holmes, known for being a massive jerk on a legendary scale, rose to fame with his dork I guess he looked similar to Eddie Haskell. Especially the movie Prisoner of Paradise (an oddly non-hard core role for him, but still rated X).


I was a sailor during part of this time, so I probably read every dirty magazine on the planet, they seemed to float around the ship under their own steam. There's no telling which ridiculous story stuck in my usually-stoned brain (I was stationed in Hawaii, nuff said).

 

I remember the rumour, it spread into Canada too. It went viral. I am older than you think.
They, those watching porn, grew up watching the wholesome show. Didn’t make them puritans. Maybe it made them fanaticize about The pearl necklace the mom wore sometimes. I remember the mean girl on little house on the prairie posing nude too, for playboy I think? Nellie!

 

I edited late, and I don't want to make a John Holmes thread out of a rumor. But you can see the jawline in the pictures, the nose is a possibility too, longer with age. It was a compelling rumor, but it was totally false.

 

yes some similarities, but lots of differences too. Ken Osmond, Eddy Haskell would, I think, laugh at this rumour, even in death. Did it help revive his career? Seems it may have. From 1968-1982 he didnt have any work as an actor.

I guess only rumours of doing porn, nudes benefited you if the rumour wasn’t true. Lol. Generally though, porn stars can’t really act well, but try. Like a one trick pony. Osmond could act.
