"When Kellogg announced it would not renew its endorsement contract with Olympic medalist Michael Phelps after a photo of the athelete smoking pot surfaced, it may have cost the food company its sterling reputation, reports company reputation index Vanno." http://www.businessinsider.com/dumping-phelps-over-bong-rip-damages-kelloggs-brand-reputation-2009-2
As an informed marijuana advocate, yes I do care. This has a larger meaning than what is on the surface. So don't include me in your "we" Thanks for posting the link!
I would be more inclined to care if he defended his actions, I know he has a career to think about but he apologised with his tail between his legs.
I agree 100%. If Kellog's suffers enough the next corporation won't go after them and then someone will stand up to the media
i think his exact words were "my bad" now that's not exactly standing up for his actions but i don't really think you could consider that apologizing with his tail between his legs.
yeah fair enough that was a bit of an exageration but you know what I mean. He could have just as easily said "It was just a bit of weed, I dont know what all the fuss is about" Instead of standing up to a stupid law he acted as if he had done something wrong. I know its not as easy as that and there would have been a lot of pressure on him about what to say to the press but really...it was just a bit of weed
I'm inclined to agree. It's important to stand up for yourself and what you believe is right--or not wrong-- even in the face of adversity. It's called strength of character and spirit.
well last time i checked.. it was illegal... im pretty sure that means wrong.. not allowed and other such words.. he did something wrong.. he got caught smoking weed. he got caught smoking weed in public.. he is on an olympic team in which the Olympics have very strict drug policy.. and he got caught smoking weed.. what he did was wrong.. plain and simple.. laws are laws whether you like them or not.. if marijuana was legal.. it would have just been another day with nothing to report.. but its not.. im done explaining to people that what your thoughts may be may differ from the law..
yeah your right...should have thought about that one first. I wasnt implying that what he did wasnt illegal but ah fuck it you know what i was getting at...gotta run now otherwise this will be the second time in a row iv missed out on picking up because of trying to post a few more things before heading out
This whole Phelps thing is just insanity. It's so obnoxious that marijuana is treated like any other schedule I drug when it comes to the media. He may as well have been using heroin and anabolic steroids. Poor dude. But he should've thought about this shit before he let someone take a picture of his ass smoking weed. He had to of known that would fuck him over big time had it surfaced. And look at that, it did. But wow now even Kelogg's is suffering because a sponsored dude got caught smoking weed? How is that Kelogg's fault? What, where they supposed to know this was coming? It's not like they knew he did illegal drugs and kept it a secret....
