Hi Guys it aesthetic. I just wanted to ask how many of you have done Kava before? I recently got 90 of the 800mg Capsules from my local Co-Op for relatively cheap. I felt the effect on about 1600mg but I really cant anymore. I have took 2400mg before bed once (Amazing Sleep) Now I am not sure how much I should dose. I have been taking 2 about every other day. I am looking for full effects. The maximum potential for kava The "High" if you will.
I take it all the time... it's so much better for my depression than antidepressants. On those chemicals I ended up feeling like a robot, and on top of that, I ended up playing world of warcraft for three days straight without leaving my room before I realized it had been three days. Definitely not a great experience. Kava, on the other hand, just makes me feel good. I still have emotions, I'm not numb, but life seems better. Maybe I'll post something about it in the health section since that is more of my experience with it than using it as a way to get high. What I DO know, though... is that there are supposedly reports of people having liver failure because of it, although I've seen several counter reports... never know what to believe, but I'd play it safe and do research before taking a ton at once.
I have tried about every form of Kava as I find it to be a great relaxing herb and it is a great conversation starter with mixed company. They wonder what it is and think at first that it is some sort of illegal drug, then end up taking it and loving it. The capsules work okay, the extracts are a bit better, but honestly, the only REAL Kava experience is to get the Kava Root Power and physically MAKE the drink yourself (or with your friends- its fun!). It is much cheaper this way, and the high is incredibly more exciting. I compare a solid Kava tea serving to a nice mix between Hydrocodone and Xanax (although pharmacologically speaking, it is neither an opioid nor a benzodiazepine). BUY the powder!
I've had kava extract in a tincture. The maximum potential I found with it is like half the bottle mixed with weed, it's alright on it's own but it goes really well with weed and I'm sure it would be alright with some other drugs as well.
I tend to avoid the kava extracts and vitamin shop pills. They don't seem to work as well as the kava powder. Luckily, there's a shop near me that sells kava root powder. I usually take a few spoonfuls and just shovel it into my mouth, quickly washing it down with a glass of milk. Pretty disgusting actually haha. If I remember correctly, kavalactones aren't very water soluble, so if I make a tea out of the powder I usually use soy lecithin, it helps to extract the good chemicals and works very well. I enjoy the subtle effects of kava. I have yet to mix it with anything but I imagine it would go wonderfully with weed.
I love Kava Kava! I take it everyday as a natural alternative to Clonopin. I take 3-5, 500MG capsules twice daily and it really mellows me out.
When I used to have bad anxiety issues, I was prescribed 4 mg of Klonopn per day. But i found it to be incredibly sedating, so often I would drink Kava tea instead at night so I would get the same anxiety relief but without a morning Klonopin hangover!
Just as an aside, I've wanted to get some Kava Kava, but had read that it causes liver damage. Is there any truth to that rumor?
It has happened once; but it's pharm. companies running in and buying up the main root of the plant (Which isn't commonly used.) But if you're very concerned about it, there are certain vendors who supply almost pure kavalactones 84% which is very effective and considered safe. You can Email me for the name of the vendor because I don't believe Im supposed to say it here. Liberty_or_Death2012@yahoo.com
Def. man I've been working with herbs for years. At least since before salvia was made illegal. So if you have anymore questions feel free to ask me.
Digg, yeah it's np. I'm relatively new here, just trying to meet some cool people. Absolutely Email me or pm me if you have any questions. If I know anything about the subject I'll share the info! Peace.
Root powder from Vanuatu has always been most effective for me. Fresh high-quality kava is a lot like drinking a bit of alcohol, just without the insanity. Cannabis and kava have great synergistic effects. Vanuatu and Fiji have the most potent kava I've had. I got some from another country once, I want to say Tonga although that might not be correct, but either way it was garbage. Tasted like lipstick and didn't get any effects, barely numbed the tongue like good kava does. I prefer kava from Vanuatu because under their law all exported kava has to be 100% organic, and it is usually good quality. I've heard Hawaiian kava is good too but I've never had it. Also.. the people who had liver problems from kava were also associated with high alcohol use (known to damage liver), and additionally toxic parts of the kava plant, such as the stems and leaves, were included in the pills. There is no evidence the roots (the part we consume) causes liver damage, and kava has been used in the South Pacific daily for thousands of years without liver problems being an issue. In other words, the kava liver scare was caused by German pharmaceuticalists who innapropiately used the whole kava plant instead of the roots. Heavy kava users have been known to turn a little yellow and get fishscale-like skin which goes away after discontinuing use. What exactly the skin condition is we don't know, but it isn't thought to be harmful.
And in addition to that, the extraction was done with an industrial solvent. I'd have to go digging around in my archives a lot deeper than I care to go at this moment, but if memory serves the solvent used was MEK. I've been quite happy with the organic Hawaiian kava root that we get more or less straight from the farm, in either powder or paste form. I say "more or less straight from the farm" because they use a mainland distribution warehouse to keep delivery times short and freight costs down.
Perhaps we could open a Herbalist/Naturopathy group for some of this, since it really doesn't fit into Psychedelics and Other Drugs. I've been interested in using herbs for healing for a very long time. Even more so now that I'm getting older. I'm a very strong supporter of Cannabis for it's healthy properties and always try to find natural alternatives. Since I now have diabetes and heart disease, I would much rather find something that has little or no side effects compared to the dangerous ones listed on the pharma poisons that I'm taking. Things like 'causes degradation of muscles tissue' and 'may cause death' kind of concern me. Can Kava Kava grow in a zone 6a?
I was thinking that, there are too many research chemicals on this forum, I don't want the two lumped together, when in fact, they're quite different. I don't even used research chemicals. Only natural psychedelics!
The liver damage from Kava is due to consuming large amounts of parts of the Kava plant OTHER than the root. If one is careful to purchase Kava Root Powder from a reputable source (which isn't hard considering Kava is completely legal in the USA), there are NO problems. Kava is probably the least dangerous and most benevolent drug I have ever taken. Out of all of the friends I have introduced it to, all have enjoyed it, including the most staunchly anti-drug. I suggest buying it from Hawaii if you live in the US. Then you are both getting a good, quality product, while also supporting local U.S. businesses!
Kava Kava is a banned herb in the UK - very sad it came to this .... I think it was 2005 they banned it..
