I recently read something on the internet that has me rather shocked. I don't remember where I read it. But it was a reliable source. (If I find it, I will post a link. Of course if one you finds it before me, feel free to post it :grinning:.)

Justice Clarence Thomas wants to overturn Social Security.

It actually has only been upheld by the more liberal post-FDR justices anyway from what I understand.

But overturn Social Security? How could he (and the other originalists) get away with that? Isn't Social Security the third rail of government? And how will Republicans deal with that?

I’m not aware of any cases coming up where they would get the opportunity... are there?

  3. This comes up every election and has so far never happened. The closest attempt was GW Bush trying to get Americans to "privatize" their social security accounts by handing them over to Wall St. If GW had been successful, ahead of the recession, American seniors would have been wiped out.

I was literally shocked when he even suggested it and it became one of the bigger reasons I voted for Obama. But that too became a huge mistake. Instead of going after social security, which had just dodged a republican bullet and was essentially untouchable, Obama decided to revive Hillary's "Health Security" plan by merging it with the Canadian plan that led to RomneyCare years earlier.

To what I have seen both parties are trying to carve Americans up like a God damned pie. THAT is establishment, crony politics.
