Went for a little walk around in the front yard and in the driveway and it was actually quite painful because the ground was hot and the grass wasn't soft and there was a lot of sticks everywhere. It was quite the experience. But I loved being barefoot tho.

As I recall, you're still new to all this, so be mindful of your surroundings. It takes its time to build stronger soles when you start from nothing, few months at least for the skin and muscles to develop, and as much as we'd like it, our soles will never be fully invulnerable. I learned this the hard way again when I barefooted into some broken glass last Monday. They were just small pricks, no major gashes, but still, I had to take a few days off, apply some rubbing alcohol and band aids, and wear Crocs long enough for the small punctures to heal, because I just then realized that it's been a while since my last tetanus-booster (always remember to take those in due time). Even before that, a few years back I stepped into a nail. That was an even bloodier affair.

So don't let your guard down. Barefoot life requires open eyes, tactical thinking, and knowledge of your surroundings so that you can avoid those ouchies. Even the native jungle tribes in places like South America, who barefoot their whole lives, do things like grab onto tree branches and vines for support when they need to get some weight off their feet while crossing some of the more pricklier locations. It's the best lifestyle, but only if you follow some basic safety protocols.

Soldier on, little barefoot grasshopper. There's a whole new summer coming. Don't miss this opportunity to build tough soles for the future.
