Do you think Ken Kesey seen as a much more of a 'socially acceptable' and more respected figure to the majority of society than Timothy Leary? Or am i just seeing it that way? I'm gonna open this one up for discussion...
Thats because Leary was an egotistical asshole who thought very highly of himself. Kesey was a true prankster, pardon the pun. Kesey travelled with the other pranksters across the whole country just to see Leary and talk to him. He got there and Leary wouldn't see him. He stayed in his office and read. later in life Leary actually admitted in an interview that he worked for the CIA and that the LSD revolution was a joke set up by the government. I don't believe the statement at all but i think it just outlines the fact that Leary liked attention. Besides, Kesey wrote a bomb ass book, you should check it out.
I'm not leaning towards either one really. I think they are both pretty interesting. I've done a significant amount of research on Leary and I have NOT read Cuckoo's nest yet, but i'm excited too after i finish up the electric kool aid acid test. which is a fantastic book if you have not read it yet.
nah I'm pretty sure I got all that was intended from the movie...haha j-k. It's so easy to do all my reading online cuz there's so much free info, but there's so many books I want to read that aren't posted online that I should just buy. ima get books by leary and kesey both. leary might have been contradictory, but so are we all.
Leary is an example of if you do it alone, in meditation. Kesey is an example of if you do it in a group together. I think in this day and age you need a little of both.
wow good point goody...kesey represents the extroverted collective trip (group mind), leary the introverted personal trip. might be why leary is seen as egotistical. kesey and the pranksters with their bus representing group mind are an epitome of lsd as it relates to others and the physical world.
