    Hi everyone,
I'm new here, I first found the site because I became interested in the hippy way of life, but was un-sure of what it entailed, so tried to find out. I've had a look around the site and forums but can't find anything telling me what hippies believe and what they live for in simple speak.

Apologies if this has been asked before, I have tried to find the answer but am new to the whole site/forum layout so have had a little difficulty.

If anyone can point me in the direction of a helpful link I would be eternally grateful.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi, great to meet you :)

In essence; hippies just live by their own values, being true to themselves. Freedom, peace, love and all that stuff.
Don't go down the path of trying to fit some supposed ideal of what a hippy is supposed to be. Just go with your instinct and what feels right for you.

Never profess to be a hippy myself, but far as ideas go it's none too shabby.

    Good luck.

Seems to boil down to being an individual. To not standing in another person’s path. To trying to do a little more good than harm in the world. To keeping in mind that this to shall pass. To making an attempt to be part of he solution not the problem. To let your mind grow. To touch as many other lives as you can. To laugh at yourself every day. And most of all to try not to pay too much attention to pontificating old freaks like me (Grin)

Hey, Soapyfish: the history of the world is one of unrelieved cruelty.

    Welcome. Here's what I found:
A person who opposes and rejects many of the conventional standards and customs of society, especially one who advocates extreme liberalism in sociopolitical attitudes and lifestyles.
someone who rejects the established culture; advocates extreme liberalism in politics and lifestyle

also try reading "Hippies From A-Z" very interesting

there really is no set beliefs. here are some words that describe the people on this site in terms of beliefs: independent, democrat, republican, green, catholic, christian, jewish, hindu, buddhist, muslim, rastafarian, taoist, libertarian, feminist, vegetarian, vegan, omnivore, drug-user, free-lover, straight edger, raver, left-winger, right-winger, agnostic, atheist, heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual, pacifist, protestor, etc.

as you can see, we are very diverse. there are no set beliefs. "hippies" i think, are themselves

No, I wouldn't change my beliefs or the way I live just because I wanted to follow someone's rules.

I merely said I was interested in the hippy way of life and wanted to know what it entailed, no different to me saying I was interested in the Viking way of life and wanted to know what it entailed. Doesn't mean I'm going to start raping and pilaging.
