Hello after 5 years of comtemplations and 2 failed attemps, I have once again dreaded my hair ^_^. Back in the summer of 06' was my original attempt but i didn't really know too much about them and they were very sloppy. I tried again in 08', my partner at the time did not really like them so I took them out after only 3 months maybe 4. Now its 2010 things are changing and as am I, its time for the dreads. This time i did research, read up on different techniques. And decided to do it the natural backcombing way. I washed my hair yesterday, let it dry sectioned it then braided it. Today I woke up and unbraided the top and front parts and started back combing myself, then proceeded to crochet any little lose hairs along the way. My friend came after work and helped me with the back bottom part. Here is a pic of my dreads day 1: . Thanks for reading
thanks everyone. I initially created this account to lurk for info on dreadlocks, but the community seems very friendly and welcoming so started up my dreadthread I will try and keep this thread updated with my locks, hopefully get weekly/bi-monthly pics up. Looking forward to watching my new babies grow as well as meeting cool new interesting people on this forum
thanks everyone for the support and comments. This is a picture i took today (just now) as you can see they are pretty much done, just got a few braids left. that I REALLY cant get too, But i pretty much had to do them all by mi self hehe, still came out pretty dope I'd say. Any shampoo recommendations? I was thinking of using organic bar soap, with no scent or random chemicals?? or should i use something more specific for dreads? 3/29/2010
that should be fine for soap. But after a time it will probably start leaving condensed glycerin and the like in your hair, a problem which some vinegar will fix. Braids will eventually probably turn into dreads on their own. I plan on loosely (and in a manner acceptable for a white guy) braiding whatever's not dreading some time around the end of this semester.
whats a roor? I always read it Roo shack...I thought he/she [sorry dont know your gender] just liked kangaroos!
i assumed it was a reference to the rorschach test- those inkblot things you see shrinks showing people on cliche tv shows.
i actually think having a few braids in looks pretty nifty. though since you ended up backcombing them all thats cool too.
I picked a way deeper name than I meant to I guess It is indeed a high end bong/watchmen pun. On that note, according to what my local headshop owner told me the other day, roor.us hasent been liscensed to produce roors for about a year.... lux is legit, but brand new roor.us tubes are TECHNICALLY fake roors, though it should still be quality glass. And she also told me that the roor.us guy also owns weedstar.... so considering my roomate recently broke my roor.us perc, I guess it's time to go toro.
