if the sticky & hairy corporate whore is going to use propaganda to win our people's trust
    just a theory
becausei know hippies are more clever, and needless to say more creative
why not use more and better propaganda to win them back

Because we don't have the funding they have to run ad campaigns and whatnot... Unfortunately, money speaks in this world, and it speaks loud.

I think that's exactly what sites like this and some blogs have facilitated. But the corporate guys are learning ways to undermine the influence of these venues. We'll just have to stay smarter and strong in our resolve not to buy into propaganda.

At this point I don't think there's any stopping or competing with big corporations and their propaganda on their own turf by challenging them with our own propaganda.

I think this is an easier issue than that. I believe the focus should really be on helping people to develop themselves as individuals so that they are mentally mature enough to think for themselves and make up their own minds instead of being swept up in it all.

    ~Nice Thread! I like thinking... :) ~

I remember growing up in the sixties, when the hip movement first started. Our parents were comfortable and complacent. They held secure jobs and were paying their mortgages. But then my generation got old enough to question why certain segments of the population were being left out (civil rights had just passed, but wasn't widely enforced), why our curriculum was so narrow in our schools. All these things lead to the youth branching off and asking questions, questions that needed to be answered in a world where we sat and watched the draft numbers roll in lottery style.

true, people need to learn to think for themselves, mature, and form original, positive, progressive ideas...

and i also believe the ones who already hold such wisdom can spread it through propaganda

Why spread it through propaganda, why not use open honest discourse?

Look at it logically. A corporation can't think. Who is evil then? Every single CEO? Every single stockholder? I'm pretty sure the biggest stockholder in Canada is the Ontario Teacher's Union. Are they evil? Every single teacher?

lets not put words into my mouth. I never said OTU is evil or ALL corporations are evil or any of that. In fact I admit maybe evil is the wrong word to use, maybe. But who sets the standards/guidelines, ect for most corporations? obviously someone very selfish. and each and every person below, for some reason, adheres to them blindly without thinking, "gee, that is screwy." so, while evil is the wrong word in some cases..I would say greedy coupled with an inability to question said guidelines set into place.

I wrote this elsewhere, but this is why I tend to think walmart, if not evil, is greedy and would gladly listen to a view that is seperate from mine:

Lets look at a common product, say, a HP computer. walmart will special order their HP computer, with cheaper parts, hence the cheaper price. So it’s a dubious claim to even say their products are equal to a competitors, let alone superior like I have seen claimed!

also, when they say lower prices, that is true to an extent, on the low end models though. walmarts low end models are cheaper than other stores low end models. and its a gimmick that works. often walmart's high end models are actually much more expensive compared to high end models else where. But since some of their prodcuts are cheaper, they can get away with the slogan they always spew. and god forbid you want to price check on these better models, no no, walmart will kick you out if they see you with a pad and pencil! But they will go right ahead and price check other stores. Hypocrites!

walmart is terrible not only for mom and pop businesses they drive out of town (tired and true obvious agruement against walmart), but even for the businesses that sell products for walmart to store on their shelves. see, walmart declares the price you will sell it for. they decide how the product is made to fit their desire. If you don't fit our need, BYE!

and of course the benefits for the workers are absolute shit! the way they treat workers is shit.

they tried to build a walmart at the site of some old ruins...I think in Mexico but this was protested and got walmart to go away! But stories like that are all the more reason to f---ing hate the place, the epitome of greed.

walmart sets its prices to suit the economic standing of the town in which it is located. In other words, If you go to a walmart in the superbs and find something for $5 you may think its a good deal. But the same exact item, in a shitty area, could easily go for $3. comparing prices even between walmarts is interesting. and another reason not to go! Just because its located in a richer place does not mean you need to jip the people out of more savings! if you are a multi billion dollar corporation and able to make money selling something for $3 why the heck sell it for $5? at some point you need to cut the greedy shit and pass the savings on to the buyer. they'd still make a killing anyways.

this is why walmart is greedy boarderline evil with no guts. higher ups decide how it is run (greed) and everyone follows without questioning (no guts).

and of course we are all familiar with the large corporations getting products from sweat shops in third world countries from workers who are treated like shit for terrible wages. how is that not greed and evil?

The elected officials you sent to government. Anything they do is reflective of you...

They just buy in bulk, they aren't made with cheaper components. An HP is an HP. I hardly think buying in bulk is evil, or morally wrong.

And I'd hardly calling advertising "cheaper prices" false advertising.

I've never seen that, nor heard about it as store policy. Please document it.

I don't see how this is a big deal. If "M & P" business are uncompetitive, and the town chooses not to subsidize them (by not paying their higher prices), how is this morally wrong. Business don't have a set "right" to exist.

It's unskilled labour - the market rate for unskilled labour is pretty crappy, but isn't Wal Mart's fault. Its a business designed to offer a return to investors, not a charity.

Its pretty classless, but evil? Once again, they'd have to get a business permit from the government, which is representative of the people. The people had a choice.

Because that isn't how business work. They aren't charities. Think about it this way - if, for a noble cause, they reduced prices and increased wages until they barely made a profit for their shareholders. This would heavily, heavily discourage investors, to the point where capital that might have been invested in Wal-Mart would be going elsewhere, some of it to other states as foreign investment. This would result in a) the loss of everybody's job at Wal Mart, and b) the loss of capital investment into the US, which increases everybody's standard of living.

You're arguing against the laws of economics.

There is a huge difference between cheap foreign labour and sweatshops.

Without oversight and a means to hold bodies that gain by profit accountable, most will sink to forms of corruption to increase those profits. Allow them free reign on the premise that it's good for the economy, is to turn a blind eye on the fact that it may also be detrimental to the common good in general. The stock market/economic health of a nation or area should never be the sole measurement of it's health in general. And that's what we have been fed for years.

Are the laws of economics (which by the way are based mostly on theory), the only laws which should be enforced. Or do individuals have a right to privacy and consideration? For the last ten years the American public has watched their individual and civil rights eroded on the premise that it was protecting the American economic stability. These companies went off shore they care nothing about domestic stability, they only care about profits. Wise up world! It works both ways. Want us to protect your companies, care about the people you wish to sell to....or back off and fend for your corporate selfs, like you've told us to do.
