I know what a novel is, but what's a novelette? A mini novel? Half a novel you'd say? Maybe 50-100 pages?

A work of prose fiction, usually longer than a short story but shorter than a novel. The specific meaning of this term has ranged from a longish story or a shortish novel, to a slightly derogatory term for a short novel of very little substance. The SFWA defines a novelette as being between 7,500 and 17,499 words -- between short story and novella length.
