I was told it wasn't really necessay to still be giving my 10-month old baby juice, that I ought to give her a mixture of 100% real juice and water. I went to do groceries yesterday and the only juice that was 100% real was apple juice, even the other juices that said 100% were made from concentrate according to the ingredients. I thought that concentrate was what I wasn't supposed to give her, otherwise why can't I just have her drink the concentrated freezer cans of juice we make. What to do???
I think Juicy Juice is 100% juice if I'm not mistaken, and you can use that. I don't know if you can get that here. You don't want to be using something that has a ton of sugars in it. Wish I could help more!! Good luck!
Dh and I have both agreed to not give our son juice at all. Sometimes i'll give him a fruit puree mixed with water, but we want him to have the fiber as well as the juice of fruits.
breast milk (or formula) and water should be the only thing a 10 month old should drink. Cut up piece of soft fruits for the babe to eat instead.
Babies don't *need* juice at all, as sugrmag said they get the calories they need from breastmilk or fomula; at this point foods and other extras are really for the sake of exploration, though i certainly see no harm in it. It depends on the kid too, some babies need all the breastmilk or formula they can get, others get plenty so juice and solids can be play time. As a general rule, use juice and other extras as a supplement to baby's diet, not in place of breastmilk/formula feedings. That said, i honestly don't think there's much difference in baby juice vs regular 100% juice, besides maybe being fresher (at least it tastes that way to me) and cost (heck *i* would drink baby juice, since it tastes better, if it wasn't so expensive). Also, i don't think there's much difference, if any, between bottled juice and concentrated juice. All you can do is read the ingredients, and take note of where it was produced (it could be assumed that american-grown fruit has higher standards as far as chemical use than say fruit grown in Mexico or anywhere else. Then again, their standards might be better too).
Leane is 11 months old, and i buy that heintz (sp?) baby juice. Its really cheap, too. I'm not sure which category it fits into that you guys are talking about, but this one I dilute with 50% water. I only will mix up about 3-4 oz in a sippy cup or bottle for her every once in a blue moon when we're going our somewhere.
I think keeping them on half juice (I use apple juice or pare juice) half or ¾ water for as long as possible is better, when mines was 10 months she would drink maybe 100 mills of watered down juice in a sitting I would keep a bottle of it with her all the time, now that she is 15 months and drinking out of a cup she will drink any thing I have never given her 100% juice the juice last longer if u water it down I save heaps of money, and they don’t need 100% juice they need the water the juice is just their to give it taste and make them drink it, my kid just likes drinking out of a cup it’s a novelty
There are a few differences between the different kinds of juice... Fruit Juice is just exactly that, and sold in the refrigerated section. To be labelled Fruit Juice a juice can't have been made from concentrate, and cannot include any artificial colors or flavors... it CAN have added sugar though, so watch labels. But at least theoretically, it would be the "best" or least-altered juice. Concentrated Fruit Juice or Fruit Juice From Concentrate is juice that's been concentrated & then reconstituted. All other rules are exactly the same as Fruit Juice though. Taste will be a tiny bit less "fresh," and over time there could be an issue with nutritional breakdown, but it's pretty much plain old juice too. Fruit Nectar is made from any form of juice or puree, (including powdered juices) but with added sugar or honey. I don't know if I'd give this to a baby... between the iffy juice source & the additives. I didn't give my kids juice until they were almost 18 months old. They were skinny enough I was worried about filling them full of empty calories, and kept them on breastmilk with the occasional finger food instead. If you wanted to give your daughter a fruity drink you might want to try making your own... all you need is a blender. My kiddies love it when I run bananas, strawberries & ice cubes through the blender... and have since they were about 18 months old. Peeled peaches run through pretty well too, as do just about all of the mushy fruits. love, mom
My mom gave both my sister and I straight Juicy Juice (Compliments of WIC) when we were about 5 months old. She said we didn't act any differently after....no tummy aches or anything.
Nope. I have a healthy set of choppers. The only thing wrong with them is my bottom row is a bit crooked. My sister has straight teeth, though. We both have healthy teeth.
I probably won't give Moire juice but for the occasional breakfast smoothie. Because the way I see it, in the first couple of years, I'm priming her gut and her diet to accept certain foods. And juices just aren't healthy. They contain no fiber, and sometimes, excess sugar. I'd rather do the puree thing!
I saw this really neat thing at Babies R Us..it has a little handle on it, but the top part is like mesh sort of, and you can put fruit peices in it and the little one chews on it, and can get the fruit juice and some tiny bits of fruit..I wouldn't give it to a new baby, but an older baby would probably love it..I can't remember for the life of me what it's called, but if I do I'll post it..but it was sooo neat!!!
I looked it up and they just have it listed as a 2+2 baby feeder system..but I copied the description if anyone wants to know about it. "Join the Baby Safe Feeder family with this handy 2 + 2 Starter Kit! It includes two best-selling Baby Safe Feeders, plus two replacement bags. The Baby Safe Feeder allows little ones to get the goodness of fresh foods, while reducing the risk of choking. Now baby can enjoy fruits, vegetables and other yummy snacks of your choice. fruit juice is still pure sugar, it's just sugar that comes from fruits instead. We don't do anything with added sugar or corn syrup. We do drink apple juice from concentrate, that I mix up with more water than recommended. My kids are not babies, though. Neither of them had any juice until after they were eating actual meals of solid foods, which didn't happen until they were 14 months old. At ten months, I was offering them sippy cups with water, and had finger-foods available if they wanted to play with food, but they really weren't eating or drinking much of anything besides breastmilk.
yeah, we have one of those baby feeders, they're awsome! Once Leane got the hang of what the heck she was supposed to do with it, she was happy as a clam
my first daughter didn't get anything like that until she was over a year old. she was also completely content with ONLY breastmilk until she was 8 months. my younger daughter is ravenous and eats like a teenaged boy. she got teeth sooner, she's the same size the other one was at 16 months (at 9 months) and has been eating solids for over 2 months now. finally, she's happy. i get her juice from whole foods, fresh pressed, mix it with a bit of water and brush her teeth after every meal. seems to be going gangbusters, she's spectacularly heathy.
Kirstyn--she didn't have any probelm if little fruit bits came out through the mesh?? I want to get one for the new baby when the time comes. It looks so neat!! So many cool things have come out since I had my last one almost 5 years ago. I'm getting so anxious to start shippong..LOL!
