United Kingdom A Christian couple have been left "extremely distressed" after the High Court ruled a local council was entitled to exclude them from becoming child foster carers because of their faith-based opposition to homosexuality. read all about it http://www.google.com/hostednews/uk...qzyvyCITvxmPYY0EQ?docId=N0211481298904191849A
on the one hand i feel kinda sorry for them but, on the other, i think the council has made the right decision because what if they were to foster a budding homosexual... that child could be damaged by their strong views...
I don't quite understand why so many black people are anti-gay, other than their Christian faith. That only makes liberal minded people lean anti-Christian when such intolerance is exposed/espoused. I think it is worth considering the parents religious biases when they apply to be foster parents. And being anti-gay means they might be at odds with a gay foster child.
If it is true, they probably don't either. Most often these beliefs are accepted but not really examined. I think in this case there might be some degree of "macho" image involved.
yes, i agree... it's the "macho" image that has had to be championed, probably because of the cultural effect that enslaving had maybe... then passed down... here, in the UK, it was much harder for a gay black person to come out than a gay white person... was/is it the same in USA? just a side-thought, has anyone heard about the "corrective rapes" going on in South Africa? Lesbians are being raped by men inorder to "correct" their behaviour...
fantastic news. it's good to know that the world is starting to recognize the inherent hatred and ignorance displayed by religion
It should be a standard question now as to how potential foster parents feel about homosexuality to root out those with prejudice. Seems like it would then be hard for many fundie Xtians to adopt kids. That would be a GOOD thing so those kids aren't brainwashed into hating those who are different. And yes it is more difficult for black men to come out than white men from what I've read, due to the cultural bias against them. It would seem to me that of all the vices black men fall into, homosexuality is the least of their worries, but NO! I would love to see some stats on anti gay sentiment among black people as opposed to white people, should be interesting...
Last time I checked the reign of Kings and Queens and despots is waning. Their time has come and gone. They are economic leeches that doom a society by keeping the Oligarchy in power. Watch the Oligarchs fall one by one...
I believe that religion should play a bigger role when it comes to adoption, as should views on homosexuality. This child could either be gay or become friends with someone who has two fathers/mothers and it could conflict with what the child knows from their Christian parents... Being the liberal that I am, I'm rather anti-religion based on all of the conflicts within the church vs. society. Times are rapidly changing and faiths need to catch up to speed with the preferences of society if churches want to remain...
hadn't heard about the "corrective rapes". South Africa has been having rape problems for quite awhile. The government says the high rate of rape is the victims fault for mentioning it and making their country look bad. Then there is the nutjobs who think it will cure AIDS to rape virgins. Something in the water there or what? way strange! and on the state v. religion topic, a court here a few years ago said Christian fundies didn't have to obey the law about equal opportunity housing. They didn't have to rent to somebody they felt was living in sin...sigh religion can make people so damn nutty!
Ditto. Imagine if they were to adopt a 3 year old which grew up and decided he was gay at 15. He would probably be thrown out on the street by them, rejected by the only parents he has known,
