Going barefoot is first and foremost a wonderfully sensual experience, due to the amazing nerve network in human feet. Because we don't have hooves (those if us who aren't centaurs), we have our soles to indicate SAFE or some degree of UH-OH! It is also natural and beneficial in that way that shod walking (especially for women) is not. I would sooner barefoot the rest of my life! But society, from the smallest unit--the couple--to the biggest--the company, the culture at large--often has rules--many arbitrary, many damn annoying--that we either follow (gnashing our teeth) or try to overturn. Bare feet have such an enormous tradition of suppression and shame that the simple act of going outdoors barefoot is fraught. Those of us who do go barefoot know its pleasures and benefits. We're not alone on this moody planet. May as well enjoy what we can while we can.
Right now I’m outside BBQing and it’s really warm and I’m in shorts and a shirt and barefoot like always
