My band is self-releasing a CD in a month and we're aiming to get the opening track on radio. Our producer told us that it's probably a good idea to join the PRS. He explained, logistically how it works, but I'm not quite sure what the PRS does exactly and why joining would be a good thing other than "so we get paid for playing on radio". Also do you know if there are any MCPS things we need to do before self-releasing? I'm guessing it probably depends on scale - seeing as we're only planning on releasing an initial batch of 100 copies of the album, it's probably not on a large enough scale for anything remotely relevant. Thanks Sebbi
Sorry, I don't know what's PRS or what's MCPS. 100 copies of an album isn't alot. Do you plan to live out of this?
Of course not. The mini-album is more to consolidate the bands fanbase and thus help us build a significant enough following to think about approaching a label in the future. The PRS is the Performing Rights Society (more to do with radio and TV than gigs from what I can tell) and the MCPS is the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society. I was hoping you (the forum in general) would know more about it than I do.
