Well, the US military certainly wants new soldiers! I recently recieved a small letter in the mail from the US Navy, offering more information and a cool little bag for free. OOoh, free. SO yes, I accepted and mailed it back with my address and number and all that really basic stuff. I had no true intention of joining. I'm always curious though. Always. So I just wanted to know. That was about a week ago. Yesterday, I recieved a phone call, on the phone it said: "US Govt - Marines ". So, expecting it was them.. I answered the phone. Immediately I was thrown into a conversation where I was asked simple questions: Height, weight, age, testing scores. In the end the individual said I was all set to join, and that I met the requirements, then set up a meeting for next monday. Now, throughout this I had only said a handful of words. I was basically being thrown into the whole thing. I told the recruiter that I would need to think about it (I'm not sure if going to the place and asking info would be smart) and for her to call me back. When she calls, I plan to simply say I only wanted some more information, and I had no real intentions of joining. Hopefully she'll leave me alone at that. But my friends say they are going to nag me now. We'll see I guess. But, jeeze, the whole conversation just told me something. You all understand what I mean?
I get that crap form them in the mail all the time, but I've never sent any of it back... Don't want those shiesty little bastards getting idea you know...

yeah, good luck getting them to leave you alone lol. God I remember when I was in my last year of highschool and started getting the calls from the military. I don't even know why they bothered. I just kept telling them no. Plus that ASVAB test they get you to take (that was mandatory at my school btw), I didn't even bother with it. I just kept bubbling in the answer sheet in patterns and alphabetical order and such. I think I was seriously the first person done with it. But yeah, given all that, they still called...all the time...ugh. I wish we'd had caller id, I just wouldn't have answered. My parents said they still call from time to time during the school year...for me and my bro, even though we haven't lived there for a few years during the school year. vultures man.
the fuckin marines have been callin my house for like 2 weeks trying to recruit my brother and set up meetings. theyre always at my school givin out brochures, key chains, water bottles, army post-its, etc. i dont wanna be a marine..but i will take your post-its
I was in the steam room at the gym the other day and a guy entered and we started a little chit chat. He said he was the recruiter for the local Army National Guard. I said "cool, I was in the Air Force for 14 years". Then he said "hey I can get you into the guard and you can finish it out and get the years for retirement which will be about $1200 a month". I'll be 48 fucking years old in February and he wants me to go into the Army guard ?? They must be really hard up to get people to join if they ask a 40+ year old to join. I am in good shape, but shit the Army ?? I don't think so. then again maybe it was for the geriatric guard. LOL
I get e-mails several times a month from the Air Force asking me to join up. They promise me things like getting specialized training in aero space medicine and battlefield trauma. I guess they don't have a clue that I'm 55 years old. And served in the army in 1968 thru 1970.
I know the army has been undermanned for a while now. They've been pretty desperate for people to join from what I've heard. But WE1, from the Air Force?? Not that I don't believe you, I totally do...but wow...The air force has actually been overmanned. I know they were still recruiting civilians the whole time, but weren't taking any prior military or af guard into active duty for quite a while, and they were going to open that up to priors again in October...but I highly doubt that helped their problem all that much. The military is freakin weird. I never really knew just how much until my fiance joined the AF. It amazes me that they get anything done sometimes.
I get shit from the Marines and the Navy in the mail all the time, I've never sent anything back....I got a call from the Marines a couple weeks ago and he started asking me questions too, I told him to "fuck off, I don't need your oil." Seemed to work, seeing as how they haven't called back
