Just got back from the cinema. Went to see League of Gents - very good, recommend it! Anyway, saw the trailer for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the post-production of which was done at DeLane Lea using Pyxis Machines that I built I think), and Johnny Depp's playing Wonka, and oh dear. He's just not a patch on Gene Wilder. Nowhere near as good. And what makes it worse is the look and feel of the film is extremely similar to that of the Gene Wilder one so overall it does seem a bit of a disappointment. Think I'll give it a miss. Do go and see League of Gentlmen's Apocalypse though! Ah, sod it, who am I fooling, you'll all just say that Johnny is sexier than Gene Wilder and use that as justification, won't you! Pah!
hahaha indeed!!! but seriously, i dont reckon it would be as good as the original (and Depp not as good as Wilder) i would like to catch it anyways but its not on my must-see list
I don't know............have you seen the expression on Gene Wilder's face as he falls for the sheep in 'All You Wanted to Know About Sex, but......"? Pretty sexy! Hahahahahahahaha
I've only seen him in three films. He was excellent in Blazing Saddles and Stir Crazy too, but I'm not in a position to judge the sexyness of men, however good at acting they may be.
he might not compare to gene wilder...but he doesn't have to. charlie and the chocolate factory was a book long before mr wilder got involved and depp's version is hopefully going to be based on the book and not the other movie.
yeah but both are based off of the book, this one is just suppossed to be more true to the book, personally I think it will suck, but we will see
I've never even heard of League of Gentlmen's Apocalypse. I've seen some trailers for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I'm looking forward to seeing it...I think another version of the story could turn out pretty good. I loved the original though, not sure it can be topped. But sod it anyways!( I just wanted to say sod it )
umm are u ppl stupid? gene wilder was wonka...thats it, and that movie was a fucking kids movie with a horrible script, not to mention wilder is not much of an actor anyways as soon as i saw that ad for the movie with Depp in it i was like damn...thats gonna be great
there is no way possible deep could be better then gene wilder, but im sure he will do an alright job.
What?! Wilder kicks major ass, noone could've pulled off that movie like him, or Jim in Blazing Saddles, and the deaf dude in Hear No Evil, See No Evil.... Young Frankenstein.... he's fucking great
Regarding similarity between the two films and the book. Well the over-all look and feel of the trailer to me reminded me a great deal of the Gene Wilder film. Really. In fact the only thing that looks different is Depp's version of Wonka. The scenery and the costumes are all derived straight from the earlier film. As far as being true to the book is concerned, I don't think that matters. It will never be bigger than the book anyway, let's just hope it compliments it in some way.
"Johnny Depp is human after all." I'm a human too, does it make any difference??? After all we're all humans aren't we? There's no gods or goddess in this world..just humans, bad and good?
Yes, but the amount people go on about how bloody wonderful he's supposed to be, you'd certainly have second thoughts.
I saw that trailer too, and depp just didn't cut it. It's a shame too because he should be able to play that part quite well. Perhaps not as good as Gene Wilder, but he should be much better than he appeared to be in the trailer. Depp seemed sort of Scrooge like, which is simply not how Willie Wonka should be portrayed.
And Yet, here you are making an assmption that we ladies will think Depp is sexier! I was trying to give a female perspective. I always think Depp looks like he needs a shower and his features are too feminine for me. And Wilder, well, humor can be very sexy.
And in the book Wonka is clearly from Eastern Europe as well. Not that I'd hold that against either actor. Oh and Tarabelle, that wasn't my opinion as such, more like an observation having butted in on several girly conversations about Depp in my time.
I think the new version with Depp is going to be more wacky, I saw pictures of the sets and they look really cool. And, there is also the director to think about, Tim Burton. I love all his films so I will probably love this one too.
Tim Burton is a proven excellent director. Can't remember seeing any fuckups he's made. For everything there is a first time though.
