Anyone else agree that JT's influence is completely underrated?

Listen to "Aqualung" and tell me I'm wrong.

Absolutely a huge influence, alongside King Crimson, Yes and Camel.

Tony Iommi did a stint in Jethro Tull and it reformed his work ethic.

Yeah, like Conservationist said, Iommi played in Jethro Tull for a while, and I would say that made quite a big difference in the music that he produced afterwards.

Jethro Tull is huge influence especially with Iron Maiden, Steve Harris is a huge Jethro Tull fan, also Porcupine Tree, Tool, and any band that is ambitious and does not care to cater to Hot Topic store bought rebellion mall rats owes something to this band.

Stand up is probably my favourite JT album.
I can certainly see a connection between heavy metal music, and the style of music JT play- however I dont think JT had much of a direct influece on the metal genre.

You should check out Van der Graff Generator's album "Pawn heats (1971)"
    - althoug there is very little guitar, there are lots of heavy keyboard riffs, very progressive, agressive and chaotic music with dramatic vocals. Im sure if they made the "Pawn Hearts" album today, it would be a symphonic prog-metal album.

excellent point regarding Van Der Graff, if you had a little less keyboard, added more guitar they most definitley could easily have been considered an early prog metal band.
