Um........I spose the name is pretty self-explanatory...but still...I'm not sure I get it... Care to explain? Anyone...
Jesus freak was originally a derogatory term applied to those involved in the Jesus Movement of the 1960s and 1970s who were often considered overzealous in their passion for Jesus. Perhaps its most well-known usage was in the lyrics of Elton John's song "Tiny Dancer". The term has recently been used frequently by Howard Stern and Ted Turner. However, it is also occasionally used today by Christians, especially Christian youth, as a positive term to let others know that they are not ashamed of their belief in Jesus. I used to see Jesus Freaks around a lot in the late 1960's and early-mid 70's...they were a very visible part of the counterculture in the US. In my personal encounters with them, they did get aggressive to the point of obnoxiousness. There are still old hippies around here but no obvious Jesus Freaks...maybe they grew up, got jobs and married, and are now members of the Christian Right.
I like Jesus freaks, a lot. But Bible Tappers aren't my friend. (I mean, I'm a Jesus freak, but not a Christian, ya know?)
My mum calls me a Jesus freak, and it's definitely meant as an insult. She also calls me a "religious weirdo". I've never heard the term used positively.
Jesus is just alright. I use "Jesusfreaks" for those people that defy logic and reason in an attempt to please jesus and get to heaven.
my mom is a jesus freak and becasue of it i know that chritianity totaly missed the points it created and just turned into alot of mythical bullshit that realy doesnt apply to anything,the main ethics and ideas are good but then you add in all the other crap it just makes it sad that people actuly feed into it, i think that people who feed into the everyone WILL be saved and that jesus realy is the son of "god" and belive in the biblacal myths are jesus freaks,jesus was just a man with an idea he took a good idea and used it in a time where people needed something bigger then themslefs to look to for hope thats all i think most religion is, people dont understand life and are unhappy and just need hope and to know everything will be OK in the end, and they also need to know what is right and wronge people had problems with morals and a lack of "common sence" so laws where created so people could see what was right and wronge and be told this is wronge.
