Are there any others on the forum who live in Japan and/or have been in Japan? I'm hoping there are others out there. There are definitely some hip folks in Japan, and some groovy things here :) Unfortunately, I haven't been able to check many of those. But, I just there are other hip folks in Japan.

I went to Japan last summer, have you noticed that they are obsessed witht the pot leaf? I was there for three weeks and went to Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Yokohama, and Shiojiri. I had a blast and meet a lot of really cool people. When i was going to one of the local highschools for a week I met i guy from Finland and a girl from Ireland, both who were really cool. Its a blast out there and would suggest anyone go there.

Obsessed with the pot leaf? I don't know if I'd say obsessed, but there are plenty of head shops, and you can find rastas here. I just wish the pot laws were a lot more liberal here. I went to Hiroshima in April, and I love my time there :)

Ahhh! You live in japan and you don't know what sailor moon is? I think it's officially called "bishoujo senshi sailor moon", it's a manga and an anime, but I prefer the manga. Girl stuff. I've got a website called land of elysion devoted to it.

If you can't find that, you could always get me something with hello kitty or inuyasha on it ;) ya know you want to. :p

Unfortunately, I'm really not an anime fan. It's on TV quite often here, but usually when it's on, it's either late at or night (when I'm asleep) or I'm on the 'net. I will ask my students (who are probably my best source of info in Japan) for infomation about Sailor Moon, and where can I get Sailor Moon.

But, I do know about Hello Kitty. I'm pretty sure of a place where I can get Hello Kitty things. I'd love to send you some Hello Kitty stuff :)

LOL, that's nice of you, but I'm just playing.....kinda. ;) I've been on this crazy "i love japan" kick for a little while now, and I love everything about it! The language, history, art, music, and especially Hello Kitty!

How did you end up over there?

Believe it or not, I was born in Japan - my dad was in the Navy for awhile. I lived in Japan for about the first 18 months of my life, but I was way too young to remember the country.

I teach English in Japan, and I've been here since October. I enjoy the job, although I don't necessarily care for the folks I work for. I've done some traveling through the Japan, and I hope to do some more.

I really hope you can visit Japan one day :) Are there any places here you'd like to visit?

LOL, that's funny, because everyone I know of that's ever lived in japan always ends up teaching english. There's a chick my friend knows over there taking animation classes or something, and to earn money she also teaches english.

No one ever likes the people they work for, so don't let that bother you too much (^_~) I don't know where I'd go first if I did ever get a chance to go to japan.....I'd like to stay clear of the tourist sites though as much as possible, I think I'd rather tour their country side or stay by the ocean. But it would be nice to give tokyo a good once over. :)

Well, a lot of the gaijin here are English teachers, and if you find the right place, it's easy to get a job teaching here.

I live near Tokyo, and I live too much of a Westernized life (unfortunately). But living in this part of Japan is convenient.

I've enjoyed the times when I can get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I haven't gotten totally too far off the beaten track, but hopefully, I'll be able to visit some relatively remote places (if I have enough money).

The country side in japan is really beatuiful if you ever have go there you should definatley not miss the A-Bomb Memorial in Hiroshima, They have some stories from servivors on video, diplayed at the end of the memorial which practicaly braught me to tears. When i was there i stayed with a family that lived in Shiojiri witch is about 50-60,000 people. It was really nice there not to remote and plenty of things to do. Tokyo can be kind of a drag with people everywhere. Also Yokohama has a really cool market layout, plus Dia Butsu(Big Buddah) is there. Second largest Buddah statue in all of Japan. Just go there and youll find countless places for any tastes that you might have.

*hugs Rashaad and the Japan thread*

I love this. SO glad to come back and find there's been an Asia forum added to the mix. Wonderful! :D

I have to jump on the 'I <3 Japan' wagon, too. From the culture, to the language, to the people--I love it all! I've never been, though. Hopefully that will all change next year. Rashaad already knows I'm going to try to follow his footsteps into the eikaiwa sensei profession. :)

I've been studying Japanese all summer, and will finally be starting a tradtional Japanese class tomorrow. I'm really excited about it, too! Only the text book is written almost entirely in hiragana (with some kana, too, I think). I only know the vowels (I mostly studied listening and speaking over the summer--not writing), so it's going to be a bit intimidating. But fun, nevertheless!

And Sailor Moon is fantastic! I used to watch that all the time when I was younger! I don't remember all of their names though. I know Sailor Moon, and then I think there were other 'Sailors'. Like Sailor Star, Sailor Happiness, things like that. Though I'm sure that's not what their names were. lol

yeah, I can't read anything, plus there are so many different way of writing, plus they have like 2 alphabets, and kanji....I think I'd get confused. I would like to learn how to write using sousho though...I hope I spelled that right. I know a few words, mostly stuff I've picked up on watching too much anime with no sub/dub. (^_^)

There are 3 sailor starlights in SM, but no happiness or anything. They're all named after planets. I'm not really so much into the anime though now that I've found the manga.

hey moonshyne, are you from Japan?

You're using Japanese "Emoji" which means smiling face,
    aka :)
I dont see those Japanese type of face marks in websites outside
Japan, thou Japanese ppl ( esp, younger ones) are really using
    them very much.

according to Sailor Moon, it was kind OLD anime in here, but
recently it was restored and among girls its popular again.
    I liked the theme song.

beachbum7, I used to use "Trixie" as my HN here before.
I have posted onto your thead in the old Hip Forum.

No, I'm not japanese or from japan, I just like playing with the faces. (~_^)
Actually they are pretty popular with the anime crowd. Plus, I just think their better than the old sideways bland faces.
I also like kao-ani -(see below) I've got tons of them saved right here.

I think sailor moon came out around 92. They've started a live action show about it, I think it's called pretty guardian sailor moon, but I just can't get into that kind of thing. It's a little too goofy and "power ranger" -like for me. I'm getting into InuYasha now pretty hardcore, but SM will always be my favorite!

Whenever I'm in Japan, I like to go to this headshop in Harajuku. No weed, just weird substitutes, and I don't really know what that stuff is. I've tried smoking it a few times, got high, but I still like weed more. Now, I just go there to buy tiny metal pipes that I can disassemble and scatter in my suitcase. That and lots of hemp rolling papers. Do you know any other headshops? I only know this one, it's a few blocks away from the really large 100 yen store across the street from the train station.
