At What point do you need to go to the er for a fever? Im fairly certain I have the flu. It's horrible. Going to the regular Dr tomorrow...

Anything above 98.6 is considered abnormal. As long as you're not above 100, you should be fine. Otherwise, get that fever down.

 

It's my fuckin life, orison. I recognized it the first time I watched it.

If your temp goes above 103 F, get to the stinking emergency room - you're still okay at that temp, but your temp could spike and cause real problems - if it gets to 105 you're in trouble - they might put you in an ice bath to keep your brain from frying. Otherwise you should be okay waiting for your doctor appointment. You should have ibuprofen (i.e., Advil or Motrin) and take some - it will help keep your fever down.

If you're still able to post, you're okay. Don't let your fever go above 103 without medical attention.

 

It's 101.3, paycheck, I went and took a hot bath. Which, I know, I know, it's bad to do but I feel soooooo horrible. I took three aleave.

 

Hell Chrissy, 101.3 is not bad at all. Aleve is good, that will help. You're fine, dear. Aleve and a hot bath are good. Try to rest, and see what the doc has to say tomorrow. :grouphug:

you should take a cold bath to bring your temp down. In spite of what many people think, exposing yourself to the cold while having a fever will not make you any more sick.. it may just help u plenty, and get some fresh air.

 

Fever is our friend. It fights invaders. You shouldn't take anything for fever until it gets above 101F.

 

I concur, Dr Aerianne. Excellent point. Actually you could let it go a bit higher than that, even. Just not over 103.

 

rf: In June 2011 an HFer whom I love ended up in the emergency room with fever. Her temp was around 106 when she passed out, and when she woke up she was in an ice bath.

She was texting me right up to the time she passed out, and didn't remember our text conversation afterward.

She was dealing with something a tad more severe than flu, tho.
