Line work, proportion, color use ( if any), creativity, shading, placement.
It's a toss up between that and the butterfly made out of my son's baby foot prints. :D The sugar skull has waaaay more intricate line work though.

Yeah...I'd go with the skull. The butterfly is worthy too though. Nice ink. Good luck! :)

I'm definitely leaning towards the skull. My artist thinks I'll take the show with that one.

It's a really killer tat but....I think I'd look for a slightly less biased opinion about it taking the show. ;)

I like the butterfly more, but I'd go with the calaveras tattoo for the competition.

Lol, my artist is EXTREMELY critical about tattoos, including his own. A few of his clients entered the contest last year, and in his own words "none of those pieces were first prize material." Not that they were bad tattoos, but they didn't showcase what he's capable of. :)
A bar in my hometown called DT's is hosting. They'll have a variety of tattoo aficionados judging.
Yeah, I really love that one too, but I think the sugar skull could win a prize. Last year, grand prize was cash and a trip to Vegas.

Nice. My artist is friends with a lot of the big names in tattooing. He might know your brother.

I'm headed into my shop on Tuesday to talk to my artist about my next 2 tattoos and I'm making my appointment while I'm there! Can't wait. Good luck with the competition. I love the butterfly one. I just think the skull is more what most competitions are looking for.

    Will do. :)
Nice, what are you going to get? Yeah, I agree about the skull. It'll depend if I can get all the daycare kids picked up on time. It's on the 24th and nearly a 3 hour drive to my home town.

I hope you are able to do it. That would be awesome.

My best friend and I are going to get skeleton key tattoos. There will be other details worked into it. The story behind it sounds really gay (as in homosexual, like we are lovers but we're not) For years we have had this running joke about keys. Every time she sees a key or something with a key she will hand it to me and say "You have the key to my heart" just being dorky. It has seriously been going on FOR YEARS. So we are getting a skeleton key with a heart worked into it. We're also having an M and an A drawn into it for our names. The initials will be worked into the design so its not like an M+A kind of thing. More abstract. Sounds totally gay, doesn't it? hahaha. We have a few pictures picked out that we like. We will show our artist for reference but let him draw something up for us.

I'm also getting my wedding date tattooed under my wedding ring. It's going to be a surprise for my husband.

Sooooo gay ;). That sounds sweet though. I'm glad you're taking references and letting your artist draw something up. With the exception of portraits, I hate when people treat tattoo artists like copy machines.

I'll make sure to post pictures when I get them done. These 2 will give me a total of 10. At what point do you stop counting and just say you are "tattooed"? haha

I think that this one illustrates your demeanor and character better than any of the others.
