I finally got an IUD last month after the horrible health department ordeal. A nurse midwife ended up doing it and it hurt really bad but after a few days I had no cramping. I can now feel the tip of the IUD against my cervix.. not poking out of it, but against it to the right. The strings are still there and all obviously. I have been using condoms since I discovered this, and the one time I didn't use a condom before it, I used EC the next day and since got my period on time. I've used condoms contintious since then. I have an appointment on monday, but really...... I'm just upset and want to vent I paid 675.00 for this and now it's going to have to be removed. I don't know if they can reposition it without taking it out, which would be reallllllllly nice, but I can't find any information on it except that second ones are usually expelled if the first was. But I haven't expelled it, it doesn't seem to be getting any lower, I think it may have been inserted improperly rather than expelled.. I am angry that the cnm also said, after she had inserted the iud, that my uterus is on the small side (5 cm). Everything online says that it generally is best if the uterus is at least 6 cm. does anyone know if they can just shift it or if it will have to be removed completely? Sorry but this sucks ass. At least I'm not pregnant.
sounds like she gave you the wrong size. I do not believe they can be repositioned, and once it's removed it can't go back in.
Well, they only come in one size.. so it's not an issue of wrong size, just my uterus being small. I've been looking it up for quite a while and I see a few sites saying if you can feel more of it than just the strings a clinician needs to reposition it, I was just wondering if that meant put in a new one or muck around about in there and put it back where it belongs, the silly bastard ~!
I used an IUD before...and still ended up getting pregnant~had to have the IUD removed & just hoped for the best (my son is now 20 1/2)
the copper kind I had about twenty years ago came in different sizes. You must have the hormonal kind?
No I have the copper one, and it only comes in one size. There were more on the market 20 years ago, now there is just paragard.
Well, she says I'm not expelling it and everything is where it's supposed to be.. so let's hope she's right. She examined me and found nothiing out of place, I swear I can feel it.. but maybe it's the strings, she did say they're wrapped around my cervix.... well the strings sure feel like a tip of an iud to me Maybe it's just my small uterus. Anyways, she says alls good, so ...
I had the Mirena in and I got it taken out because I could feel it. It was painful when I did certain yoga postures, or when my little one bounced on my abdomen. Not to mention the fact that it caused me lots of vaginal dryness, and cramps. Good riddance to the IUD for me!
So, I had the Mirena inserted last week (Friday, May 5). I've been cramping ever since. Has any one else experienced this?? Is this normal?? My friend said she had one in in the '70s and indicated she cramped a little for a couple of weeks but then it went away. Other than the cramping, I can't really "feel" it. Not sure what other type of BC to use....this seemed like the perfect option for someone my age who smokes (sorry.... bad habit!!!). Diaphrams seem kind of inconvenient... HELP ME!!! I'd like not to have to have this removed, but, I can't live with menstral cramps for the next 5 years either.
IUDs are known to increase menstrual cramps and make for heavier flow. Women who already have a heavy flow or cramps before the IUD tend to have really bad results. It is contraindicated for women with endometriosis as well. For me, the IUD made my cramps go from bad to debilitating, and I would bleed very heavily for ten days. It was quite the nightmare experience.
Thanks for your response. I've been doing some research and I've been reading that cramping can occur for up to several weeks as your body becomes used to the device. So....I guess I'll continue to take my pain killers and hope for the best. I'll give it a couple of weeks and see what happens.
