After I had my son 1 1/2 years ago, I got the mirena IUD. It is suppossed to last 5 years, and I never really have to worry about it. I am in-between health insurance and I can't schedule an Appt. with my doc for my annual checkup. I don't know if I need to have it checked regularly and was wondering if any women here have the same thing, and your good/bad experiences with it. Any words of advice would be helpful. Peace-
I was luckily able to get the Mirena IUD when i had medicaid, that worked out perfectly. I got it in late May 2004. After I had my son in Mar 2004 i went from 211 lbs pregnant to 173 lbs at the time I had the Mirena...3 weeks later i gained 10 lbs and since then have gone from 173 lbs to 204 lbs now. I thought it was my eating habits and the reason i wasn't losing was because i wasn't exercising enough or i was eating the wrong foods... I have not been able to lose a pound really. Then I have been feeling depressed and having mood swings and i have no urges to have sex at all. I have had some weird chest pain and my hair has been falling out. I thought that all of these things were due to me gaining weight, not eating well enough (which i couldn't figure out what was wrong with what i ate) and my hair loss i pegged that having perms was the cause. A few days ago i told my husband that i keep gaining all of the weight in my stomach which is making me look pregnant, but of course i've gained it elsewhere...i have even thought that i was pregnant with the IUD. when i thought it was the birth control, i looked it up and all the articles kept saying there was no relation of weight gain to the mirena...which was of course a positive. I read on several posts that all of these women with this IUD are having the same problems. I was only looking for the weight gain, but never did i think the rest of these things could be caused by the IUD...and i have absolutely NO ENERGY i feel like sleeping all day long like i'm pregnant. I am ONLY 24. I have always been active and athletic!!! I have an appointment in a week...I will post something a few weeks later to see if the symptoms and weight changes for the better!! Only problem is i don't know what is a good one to have that won't cause all of this.]\ hope this helps.
Is that the one w/ the hormones in it? If so, I don't know. I do have a copper IUD. I've had it since 2003. Sometimes it's a pain in the ass but then I remember not sleeping and sore boobs because of a newborn! As far as getting it checked, I've only done so when there has been a problem i.e. a filament poking my partner during sex. That's a bad, bad thing! Good luck!
